Comparison of IPC-HFW5231E-Z and IPC-HFW4431R-Z

I have one IPC-HFW4431R-Z, first camera I bought. Installed it on the corner of my house.
When I installed it, I didn't have a front door camera, so I was trying to cover both the front entrance and driveway, and have it zoomed towards the front door. I have a three car garage, and the front entrance of across the driveway from where the camera is located.
With it like this, at night, when you walk close to the camera, faces get washed out. If you are farther away, it looks fine.
So, a better nighttime test is to walk close to the camera, and see if you can recognize the face.

I need to readjust my 4431 since I have a starlight for the front door now. I'll try adjusting it one night, and see if I can get better night time performance.

Cantonk what? Are we talking about two DAHUA cams or not now? Did you miss something?
Can't you read based on IP address that determine that you're the same person that was promoting Cantok cameras ..
It seems that they failed on you... As soon as I get back to my office I will be publishing your IP addresses on this website as well as notifying your ISP in Italy

I'd still like to see those compared at the same high bitrate of 6144 or 8192. When you double the bitrate on one camera vs the other, seems to me you arent getting an even comparison? At least thats been my experience. I run most of my 2MP Dahuas at 8192 or 6144. When dropping to 4096 or less, quality is clearly affected.

I "kinda sorta" did what you're requesting in post #8, although at 2048 mbps, which is close to the maximum allowed for the 5231 camera at my 10 fps frame rate and H.265 compression. I'm thinking you must be running a higher frame rate or different compression for the bit rates you're running. I found it impossible to make a "scientific" comparison because of things like the two cameras having different color balance and imperfect focus at various different portions of the image. My subjective take is that at the same bitrate the daytime images of the two cameras are overall equal quality. Running the 4431 camera at a higher bitrate allows a sharper daytime picture than the 5231 can provide. No contest at night, with the 5231 being clearly better, which is what spurs the cost vs. capability debates. I made that conclusion using more than the images in the post, as I was able to spend hours looking at various uncropped stills and video.

Yes I do run mine at 30fps H.264H, because I can and its simply free LAN bandwidth with plenty of HD.
 
ANY 2mp-4mp camera will be better at night with added white light. I fail to see the purpose of comparing apples and banana's with widely different light and bitrates.

The daytime difference is negligible...the plate can easily be read by both cams...at night the starlight is significantly clearer...it is important to note the night time images would be significantly worse with the 4431 if it was placed say over an asphalt driveway with no tree and white tank to reflect the IR....
You are right, in full zoom the difference is negligible. I also have a hfw-5431r-z the official Version. I am not 100% for sure, but I think the chinese market one has less quality of the lens. But it´s impossible to show in pictures. Especially in zoom mode the aperture is differing and we have no data fact for it. Les quality lens needs more light source at zoom and night.

But much more is one thing making a difference, the ir correction error of all dahua zoom lens cams (not ptz). With the posted pictures it´s not possible to see, because the size is to low. But if we look on the native picture and refocus at night view, the picture sharpness and detail level is at night much more for the 4mp than the 2mp have and both have a better sharpness than with day time focus point. I am working hard since month on it to achieve a solution from dahuas engineering. The solutions is so simple, but unfortunately they have there focus still on other points of engineering.

If we want to catch moving objects, in most cases it´s necessary to add more ir power to both cams, although the starlight has much more efficiency. There are many factors, distance, zoom factor, surrounding lights, speed and direction of objects, purposes of usage.

Still pictures are impossible to show these differences, you get 100 ack from me.

@MasterPasterYEAH! please stop flooding the topic with your comments. You are loosing the focus of this topic. And you also forget all the negative effects of these domestic cams have. It´s well known here, every well informed customer can read here in many postings, where these cams have there problems or not. Still Picture quality is only one small point of interesting for a security device.
