Connect and administer blue iris from another PC?

I have BI running on my HTPC hooked to my TV.. When I want to do any admin I either have to RDP to my HTPC or just do it via my TV monitor.. Both aren't exactly ideal..

It would be nice if you can install the blue iris admin / server piece and then point it to the server that's actually running as the server to admin..

Just an idea..

That is not possible.
 
UI3 allows a lot of the administrative functions to be done from another PC. It will not be as complete as being logged onto your HTPC directly, but you can do a lot with it.

If you're going to RDP, set the "Video During Remote Desktop"under the camera tab to one update either every 5 or 20 seconds. It should help a good bit.

If you're going to use other remote support tools, SplashTop and TeamViewer are the two best for video of the ones I've tested.

There's not much day-to-day stuff you need the BI interface for anymore other than exporting clips. The new UI3 web interface is quite good. It's also much less CPU intensive on the systems I'm running. 90% with the BI interface, 40% with UI3 with 4K local AND remote display running at the same time.

UI3 can export clips. ;)

And there is at least one YouTube video that shows how to select a time range and then generate the clip to be exported and then save it on the remote PC. That would be very handy.

To me, one of the advantages of a "more intelligent" device for TV viewing, would be having a "real" keyboard, and mouse to make navigating YouTube, various streaming services, and the web easier. So I'd certainly want a wireless mouse and keyboard for a HTPC.

The usual remote control interfaces for smart TVs, Roku devices, etc., really become tedious in a hurry compared to the interface you have with a PC with mouse and keyboard.

So I agree that getting a good wireless keyboard and mouse is a great solution here, too.

Many smart things support using your phone as a remote. That gains you keyboard and copy/paste from a password manager. LastPass has my Netflix/HBO/etc. passwords crazy and long, typing them by up/down/left/right/OK is a nightmare.

Our old Roku device is lame for a number of reasons. Trying to watch YouTube with it is so painful as to make it all but impossible. It won't remember where you were, and when trying to watch consecutive episodes of things, you have to get completely out of the YouTube app, re-boot it, and then search for and find the next episode by hand, using the one-key-at-a-time entry. It's torture. So we never bother, And it's really our only actual TV.

I need to update to something better for that TV, for sure. But I did buy a new Vizio TV for my mom recently, and they claim to have an app to use your Android or IOS device as a remote for it. That HAS to be better. :)

In my experience, nothing beats surfing, streaming, and viewing on a full-blown PC with standard keyboard and REAL mouse! So a HTPC with good wireless keyboard/mouse thing would be nice. But I'm also thinking the Nvidia Sheild would be a good upgrade for the TV we currently have that lame old Roku gadget on. The TV is about 10 years old, and pre-dates the "smart TVs". And yet, that darned thing refuses to blow up, so we haven't replaced it. It's just been too reliable, I guess. Maybe it needs to meet with an "accident". ;)
 
Yeah, our old Roku gadget doesn't support casting. The new TV I got for my mom does this within the TV itself. I'm sure a new Roku box would be light years ahead of the ancient one we have. And all of these similar gadgets are very reasonably priced these days.

I may go ahead and just get something new for our TV. It would certainly be worth the low price to have an upgrade there.

It's more expensive than most other options, but I am tempted by the Nvida Shield.
