Hello all,

I am new to the forum and new to security cameras. I have studied the forum for a couple of months and have an idea of the items I plan to purchase. Please chime in if you have an suggestions or critiques.

1. Dell Optiplex 9020 i7 4790 (waiting for the sale to appear on Twitter) Thanks to @fenderman for the recommendation during the NUC post debate.
2. WD purple 3tb (purchased)
3. 3 Hik turrets and 2 bullets (1 zoomed to capture a vehicle I park in the street)
4. Poe switch that can handle 8 cameras (need recommendation)
5. Blue Iris

A little background- I have a single story house that is relatively new construction. I plan to have 1 camera in the backyard and the remaining 4 in the front of the residence. There is a large flood light at the edge of my driveway that I park a vehicle under. I have had someone tamper with the vehicle and want to capture any activity.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Bit worried about the night video here of that model though:

edit: Oh cool, I did not know I could embed videos like that... all this time I've been pasting links.

hmmm, that looks bad...it looks out of focus..he is also using the i8 model with very powerful IR right in from of those bushes...I believe they are using the same sensors as the other cameras...maybe the i8 IR is too powerful...dont know..

That's the 4mm lens (I didn't think i8 available for 4mm but hey-ho). Maybe Smart IR is off. I'm tempted to get one and zoom in on my gate. Hopefully the IR will light up the rest of the garden for the other cameras too.

Here's the 12mm, not much better:

@burntorange For the bullet I would use one of these with more powerful IR

While there is no sale at the outlet for the optiplex, there is this precision (which is a premium model over the optiplex) for $582..its a new unit...the e31246 scores about the same as the i7-4790

Correct my if I'm wrong but I would not be able to add the WD purple 3 tb that I purchased to this machine. Looks like it only has one 3.5" bay @fenderman

You should be able to fix the face overexposure by forcing the camera to use a higher shutter speed. You do the same thing to accomplish license plate capture at night. More illumination is only a problem if you don't use proper settings.

Thanks everyone! I ordered a OptiPlex 9020 i7 mini tower today for $528 shipped. I plan on ordering 4 Hikvision 2332 turrets and 1 2032 bullet. POE switches are not cheap ! Things are really adding up.

I have an Optiplex 755 that's obviously quite a bit older, and it's starting to struggle running four 720p and two 1080p cameras. Let me know how the 9020 works out.
