I was thinking it would be a good idea to sticky this thread to consolidate and discuss (briefly) the newly released Dahua 4MP Starlight cameras; that way it would be easier for everyone to navigate to the desired thread (model topic) of the camera(s) they're interested in.

I was wondering if you could sort through the Dahua cameras by sensor size. Say the 1/1.8" sensor or larger. When I look at a camera the sensor size is one of the first things I look for. If it is a 1/3" sensor for instance I move on right alway as I know that camera will perform poorly in low light.

Will definitely do the 4MP Starlight lineup. If I'm not mistaken most (if not all) of the 4MP Starlight cameras currently have a 1/1.8" sensor or larger. With many models recently released and more to come, I'm sure many will want to be kept informed. :) I hope to get this thread ready in the next several days.

As promised, I've gone ahead and updated the OP with the 4MP Starlight models discussed thus far (as of 9/28/2019)

If there are any models I may have not mentioned, please let me know

IMHO the fixed lens (2.8,3.6,6mm) B5442T-ASE are superior to the 5231 series with the only caveat being we're waiting on them to fix the SmartIR. If you have enough light to run them in forced color at night, they are the shits in a sub $200 camera.

The VF model is close, but just a bit less light sensitive.

No, that 4MP “Lite AI” camera won’t even be close to 5231 or the new 5442 series. It uses an older 1/3” CMOS sensor

Based on the min. illumination spec listed, wonder if they have a newer, better 1/3” sensor? Or is it just another incorrect spec?

Hopefully someone can either get a review unit or request @EMPIRETECANDY for clarification. If its a new 1/3" sensor, I sense that it should have been promoted on IPVM by now

Yeah, I cant imagine a 1/3 sensor on that 4MP is going to perform like a 1/2.8 or 1/1.8 ... on the other hand that 2MP version Lite AI may just perform just as well as the 5231?

Seems the whole "Lite AI" series is splitting hairs between the Pro and Pro AI series . No Face detection or People counting, but with the enhanced Tripwire/Intrusion.

The min illumination spec on the 2MP lite-AI looks to be a good bit lower than the 5231. Granted, they only list the 1/3s spec, but the lite-AI is .002 and the 5231 is .006.
