Dahua NVR - too many alerts due to plants. How do I correct this?

My Dahua cameras and NVR seem to alert me when my plants move in the wind. I tried adjusting the settings and I think I made it worse.
Can someone tell me how to resolve this or the best way to change my settings so that my system alerts me when there is movement from a car or person and not a plant?

thank you in advance for any help.

3 options
  • Replace with cameras/NVR that is smart and had person/car detection built in
  • Frigate NVR. use machine learning to do object detection. (I use this and have it paired to home assistant to do my notifications)
  • Blue Iris and deep stack - Uses machine learning to do object detection.

In addition to above, you will have to find the compromise, if possible, to remove the plants from the area to be looking for motion. Depending on your field of view, that may or may not be possible.

Do I install Frigate on my NVR? The site makes it look like it is just software, but keeps referring to frigate NVR. If I upgrade the NVR to frigate would I be able to use my cameras? With Blue Iris, does that just install on my computer and I run the cameras to my computer?
Thank you

If your NVR has alarm I/O connectors you can add alarm sensors also ..

Both frigate and Blue Iris are NVR software that you install on a computer to replace your current NVR.

What model is your NVR?
What model cameras?

I have quite a few NVRs running using IVS for event detection and by and large don’t have too much trouble with plants. If you’re using plain motion detection then yeah, it sucks.

I will look up my model numbers.
i am using motion detection. Do I need to change to IVS for event detection? Do I turn off motion detection?

Agree with the above comments.

Turn off motion detection on the NVR or try changing the motion detection settings (sensitivity from 50 to 35 or so) and increase the threshold from 5 to 10. or so Watch the display and adjust as needed.

And if IVS is available then only use it. Draw your trip lines and/or detection boxes as needed.

As a last resort, try Roundup on the plants!

hopefully my system has IVS. I keep getting notifications showing what looks like bugs tonight. It is crazy for it to catch them using motion.

Old fashioned motion detection is simply looking for any change of a pixel within the active zone. Shadows, bugs, plants, you name it, all look the same to it. A pixel changes color.

IVS is more "intelligent" and uses some form of AI to determine movement.

I use a Camect hub and don't get false detects from plants, trees, bugs, rain, snow, fog, flashing lights, etc. It just detects objects I choose from a list of about 30 objects.

The Dahua NVRs with AI IVS do a pretty good job as well. Of course if you’re cameras aren’t Dahua then you could go to something like above or use Blue Iris (BI) like a lot of folks here.
