Dahua NVR - What does the "Start Talk" do...

I have a button on the NVR "Preview" tab that says "Start Talk". It has a down arrow that has a single selection of Default, PCM, G711a, G711u.

Does this use the "Mic Out" from the NVR or does this activate the RCA jack on the camera you have selected in the Preview pane if you have an amplified speaker hooked up to the camera.

The Preview pane for each camera also has a MIC icon that says "Audio Talk". Does this activate the RCA out on the camera or MIC out on NVR?

I have the Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 and I found a datasheet pdf sheet(can't find a manual...) that says:
"Two way talk" - 1 Channel input, 1 Channel output RCA. That makes me think it's the MIC in and MIC out on the back of the NVR. Seems odd they would put an "audio talk" in each separate camera pane though...

I read through a bunch of "two way audio" threads but didn't see anything describing these buttons.
The Dahua gDMSS also has a Talk/microphone option on the phone but not sure if leveraging the NVR or camera. If camera I'm not seeing any Dahua that have a built in speaker unless it's using the RCA jack.

Please help a noob understand these buttons :)

I am wondering the same thing.

I have the NVR5416-16P-4KS2 NVR.

If I go to the NVR interface and view a stream, there is a microphone icon that appears, if I put my mouse in the upper right corner. If I hover my mouse, it says "Audio Talk".

I tried clicking on it. But I don't think anything happens.

What does this do?

Can send me some pics?

The start talk button will only work with a mic hooked up to the nvr on the back and you can monitor live sound in a roon by using it and use it as a talk back system too. Remember though, it is not related to channels and the audio will not be recorded to any channel, regardless if you are listening live while viewing a channel. To associate audio per channel so it records to the channel as well, you'll need a mic capable camera with an internal mic or a mic hookup in the camera. Once that is set up, the little mic icon on the channel window will work for hearing the audio in that channel and it will record with the video feed as well.

Yes, I'll send some pics later this week.

So you're seen the cameras need to have a microphone input, not just the built-in internal mic, to record talk back audio, correct?

I'm not as concerned about recording talk back audio.

I just want to use the talk back audio, if I can set it up.

How do I hook up the audio to the NVR so that I can use it as talk back system? Where do I make the connection, and what do I connect?

After I connect, how do I use it? Say I'm viewing a camera feed on my TV. How do I talk back, so that it sends audio to the camera? Which channel will it send to?

If I can't do it on my TV, do I have to use a device that accepts audio input, such as a mobile phone? What about the built-in mic on a web cam, that's connected to my desktop?

As for right now, I have no issues with hearing the audio on any of the channels. I was just wondering if I could actually send audio back too.

I've seen commercials for Arlo cameras that use 2-way audio. But when looking into a camera system, that was a low priority for me.

But, if it is actually possible with this Dahua system, then that would be good.

Take a look at the link in the first post to set that up.

Thanks. My cameras have built in mics.

So it sounds like I just need to connect an external mic to the back of the NVR? Or do I need to make additional connections on each device? I'm still a bit confused, after looking at the diagram.

Also, is there a microphone you or someone suggest I get, to try it out?

Also, let's say I'm talking into the external mic. How can I tell if the sound is coming out of a camera? Will someone need to be near the camera to verify? It looks like if I configure a camera to have audio line in, then the sound from the external mic will travel to that camera. So if I configure all of the cameras to have the audio line in, then the audio will travel to all cameras at the same time?

Also, I think this screen shot is a little old:

https://dahuawiki.com/File:2_way_talk_wiki_1.png

There isn't a separate Audio section anymore on the left side.

If I go to Setup-->Image-->Encode, then I see both audio and video encode settings, all on one screen. I see audio settings for Enable; Encode; and Sampling Rate.

That's similar to the screen shot.

But, I don't see any audio settings where I can change the attribute to Line In.

@EMPIRETECANDY, can you help with the settings? Since I think the interface is a little different now.
