Would this work for a poor mans street LPR camera (Dahua Technology Pro Series N44BB33-B)? I can mount it probably 5-10' from the street at car level or from my soffit which is a good bit further 50' from the street and obviously a bit higher. Its a culdesac so they have to go by my house then turn up the street.

Product Highlights

  • 2688 x 1520 Resolution at 30 fps
  • Night Vision Up to 131'
  • 3.6mm Fixed Lens
  • 87° Horizontal Field of View
  • Supports microSD Cards Up to 128GB
  • RJ45 Ethernet with PoE Technology
  • IP67-Rated for Outdoor Use

One of my concerns is that our house being at the center of a culdesac and at somewhat of a down hill slant, how the camera will do when cars drive down the hill and the headlights at night obstructing the picture. Obviously when they drive back up I will only have brake lights to contend with.

3.6mm wld be too wide
look for some online lens calculator to determine what focal length to use

I believe the IPC-HDW2231R-ZS 2MP is varifocal so I can adjust from 3.6 to 12mm.

Using BLC or WDR should help with the headlights and as they drive away the plate has a license plate light. BTW: The IR says only good to ~about 160'. "IR Distance up to 50m(164t)" So I wouldn't count on that too much. Just a thought!
