Hi,

I have been searching for a computer to run Blue Iris, I am starting with two cameras and will be increasing that to 6-8. Not sure of the exact camera yet (I have another question in another thread about cameras and location). I will have to pick up a larger HDD for video storage but I found this Dell Optiplex 3020 and with the 25% coupon it's right at 400 including the 3 year warranty. Is that a standard deal or can I get better for less if I wait. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum...You will want at least an i5/haswell skylake...
That is a rippoff price for an i3haswell. You can get an i5 skylake processor for 300 or so... I recently picked up an i7-6700 skylake for 400....but they are usually about 500...search the forum for optiplex and elitedesk.

Thanks that's good to know. For those types of deals, do you search at Dell Outlets every few days? I signed up for email notifications but not sure if that will give me a heads up to special offers/coupons/etc...

i5-4590 and i5-4570 are older CPUs but are still easy to find and good for Blue Iris if the price is right. The Skylake CPUs he refers to are i5-6500 and i5-6400. The other day I saw a complete i5-6400 system for $230 on ebay, granted I don't think it had any warranty.

The optiplex model number doesn't really matter. What matters most is the CPU they include and the price you have to pay.
