For $300? Also, I need a mini-tower case. I have some hot-swapable trays.

Thanks. I would need to find the older OptiPlex mini-tower design. The new ones don't appear to be a good solution for removable trays in the front.

They both have the similar designs. You dont want to go any older than haswell. Why do you need hotswapable trays?

I am using the server for a second purpose: consolidated backup of all my PC/laptops.
I dont understand. Are you manually removing drives from your pc's and backing them up?

Turns out Dell PowerEdge can't be expanded in the front bezel. Can't add a 5 1/4 hotswap bay or even a second DVD drive or so.
I am looking at the previous PowerEdge model, Lenovo server, or an OptiPlex after all.

In any case, What OS is BlueIris confirmed to work? Would win server 2012 be ok?
