Do you max out your camera resolution?

In my system I have a mix of cheap 2,3 and 4mp Hik and Dahua cameras. For simplicity and for a nice looking BI display where all the images have the same size and proportions I have them all set to 1080p. This morning I had a situation where I could barely see what I wanted to see, so I am curious, do most people run all of their cameras at their maximum resolution or not? Thanks.
 
I only run a lower resolution if I have a good reason to.

One camera in particular is an old ACTi E77 which has a 10 megapixel sensor. It sounds good but really it isn't because the sensor and image processing are shit. So I run it at 3 megapixels because that yields basically the same level of detail but with lower CPU usage in Blue Iris, and the picture has fewer compression artifacts.

I'm also still running several Hikvision 3MP cams at 2MP because the 2MP mode actually offers a wider (but also shorter) field of view than the 3MP mode, and I feel like the wider field of view is more useful outdoors. I run them this way even though the 3 MP mode actually has slightly better pixel density.

However for other cameras like my Dahua starlights and 4K cameras, absolutely I run them at native resolution.

Well, I had a strange situation occur where in the middle of the night I saw a grey cat walking on my concrete driveway, but when the cat should have appeared on a second camera it was not even visible. All you could see was a slight moving blur. Now maybe some moisture condenses on the lens or there is a little fog in the air, but it wasn't apparent and this seemed strange. It makes me wonder if maybe for my main driveway view a 4K camera might be worth a try.

More resolution will not solve your blue problem. Its about exposure settings.
 
Well, I will do more detailed experimenting when the weather improves.
 
Does BI have a max resolution for live viewing?

One of my Hikvision cameras provides a 3072x2048 resolution & so I changed/maxed it just for fun.
BI live viewing crops the viewing area or appears zoomed in. Viewing in BI browser is same issue.
Playback recordings is fine & whole area plays. Live viewing remotely on my mobile via iVMS-4500 app plays fine as does viewing directly via camera itself.
I tried adjusting BI settings Resize output frame but nothing appeared changed.

EDIT: Is there a point of too much resolution?
EDIT: Zoom is properly zoomed all way in/out.

No. You are likely zoomed in using the mouse scroll wheel.

That's not it, as I already made sure of it.
EDIT: I can zoom all way in, & I've tried zooming all way back out but it stops short & won't go any further yet issue remains.
