Pulling my weight
I record 24x7 on my 7 outdoor cams and my garage cam. I record the interior cameras when exiting the geofence when my wife and i both leave the house.
Could you explain "hidden piggyback NVR" I can venture a guess but would like more information as to what you mean.

Motion only here. I have already needed video I didn't have a few times so a 24/7 capable server is in the works.

I do both with BI. I have not mastered the settings for motion yet so I have so many false motion detects, ( wind in trees, shadows when a cloud blocks the sun, car headlights, moths, snow or heavy rain etc. constantly cause triggers for my cameras no matter how I set them so I no longer use the phone alerts.
I have the 24/7 split at every hour and I just glance at the detects to see if anything interesting is in the snapshot. If so, I can go back and review by hour for anything missed.

I've found that lengthening the make time is very useful in avoiding triggers from car headlights sweeping across my front yard at night. Using a longer "object travels" distance helps in windy conditions when shadows from shrubs are moving around or the shadows suddenly appear/disappear as the clouds move through.
Interesting. Thanks. I have them all at the default 1 second now. Maybe if I give it 3 seconds or so? Time for headlib ts or a shadow to pass before it triggers is the idea there I guess, right?
Yes. The headlights tend to pass quickly so a longer make time lets the quick 1-2 second brightness spikes pass without a trigger.
For the the windy shadows, the shadow isn't really covering much ground, its just waving back and forth. So a longer distance traveled threshold can help with false triggers.
Sounds like it will work for car headlights. The shadowing issue I have is when the whole scene goes from bright, (full sun or moonlight) to dim gradually, maybe over a 5-10 second period. So for that I don't think the make time would help though. I do multiple zone cross settings but it still triggers from this.
24/7 record with motion alerts for stuff on my property. I don’t want alerts for every car going by or stuff in my neighbors yard. But there are times where I need to see what happened in the street. So I can check my alert snapshots to see if anyone was in my yard. Or I can skim the full hourly clips if say someone backed into a car in the street.
Disk space is affordable enough (although not exactly cheap) that it’s worth it to me to have 24/7 recording. Like others, I’m still trying to master motion alert settings.

I have it set up to switch profiles (which enables the interior cameras) when both my wife and I's phones are outside of the geofence. The profile then switches back (to disable the interior cameras) when we enter the geofence. I've included a screenshot.
