When I first saw this recording I thought the driver was throwing out trash. Later I went to clean it up when I noticed it was mail. One of the pieces of mail was a current bank statement. The mail was for 2 different people at a single address a few miles away. Since the vehicle's license plate had been recorded I called the US Postal Inspection Service and they opened a case file for this mail. The end of the video shows a still shot of the vehicle and license plate. The body of the vehicle appears to be in very poor shape.

Way to go, Lulu5kamz!! At the very least, it's littering for which I'm sure San Jose and/or Santa Clara County has an ordinance AND a fine.

Stealing someone's mail out of their mailbox is a felony. The question is, how do you prove
    A) Who was driving the car
    B) That what was thrown out of the car was stolen mail
    C) That the driver of the car stole the mail

Good for you , Lulu5kamz. You did the right thing. That plate number is fairly new for California. Either stolen or recently registered.

You're talent for setting up cameras is great. Do the police ever contact you for help when they know a suspect may have been near your corner?

Thanks again. Any news on our friends who smoke behind your house? Do you upload first to Youtube and then somehow to ipcamtalk? I am having problems with DAV files.

I know you are not talking to me but in my case yes the police know I have IP cameras and they will come an ask for a download if they need it. My system with 10TB on my Hikvision NVR is good for over 6 weeks of storage before it writes over it. That is with 8 IP cameras running in best quality.

The only direct contact with the police was to give them some video from a neighbor's home burglary. This was a few years back before I had much better cameras. The police were not able to id the person but it at least gave the neighbor an idea when and who it was that committed the burglary. I also did help a neighbor several months back with identification of a hit and run driver. The photos I gave to the neighbor were used to identify the vehicle that caused the hit and run.

The LPR capability alone should interest law enforcement! Incredible work setting that up.

I haven't seen this pair together for a couple months now. Maybe they moved or found another place to smoke that doesn't involve walking by our house. I use Blue Iris software to record from my cameras. I then export the video from Blue Iris in MP4 format. I upload this video to YouTube and then post the link to the video here in the forum.

I keep all videos for 2 months before they are deleted. They are backed up to an external 8TB drive.

Which camera are you using for the LPR-ing?

Disregard... found the answer in your other thread.
