Hi,

I try to connect to the serial port in my Hikvision camera, It's a new DS-2CD2042 model. I want to do it because my camera doesn't respond to pings / arps etc.

The problem is that I don't find the UART interface.

I might be missing something obvious- but I would appreciate help to locate it.

Attaching pictures of the boards.

The problem is that I don't find the UART interface.
On that camera, the serial console connector is underneath the main system board. You need to remove the board - carefully. You will see the 4-pin white connector near the edge of the board.

Also - please ensure you are using a "serial TTL to USB' interface, not an RS-232 interface.

I still don't see output, maybe I used the wrong pinout / connector.
Suggestion:
First check that the baud rate is 115200 with 8 bits no parity.
Then check that when you connect the RX and TX of the serial TTL convertor together, any characters you type are echoed back.

Connect the GND (Black on the ones I've seen) of the serial TTL convertor to a camera ground.
Leave the TX of the serial TTL convertor unconnected.
Try the RX of the serial TTL convertor (White on the ones I've seen) to the Black lead from the 4-pin wired connector, power cycle the camera.
If that does not work, repeat for the Yellow wire from the 4-pin connector.
When you find the connection that shows readable characters on the screen, connect the TX of the serial TTL convertor to the other lead from the 4-pin connector.

Maybe they disabled it?
Possible, but unlikely.
