I purchased one of your new 6mm G2 model ColorVu cameras off of Amazon. The firmware on the box and camera is V5.5.134_200430. I have read all the threads about unstable firmware and rollbacks from Hikvision and this is firmware is one with issues. When testing the camera at my desk the following issues were noted; no matter what the resolution or video quality chosen the maximum bitrate i can choose is 8192 - you know it should be 16384 (most serious issue). Second, the sound works but it very muted no matter what the volume setting is and I think this is one of the issues with this firmware. The problem I am having is the only firmware available from Hikvision at the moment are rollback versions. I am not comfortable with rolling back firmware. My MAIN CONCERN is the bitrate issue - is this a defect in the camera hardware or firmware. I have already requested a return but I thought you might be aware of the issue and have a fix for this rather than return. 6mm G2 turrets are hard to find. Thanks, pb&j

A selection of newer firmware can be found here :

Though the version on the product page is older :

On checking the Hikvision product info - and a sample camera running the 5.5.160 version firmware - 8192kbps is the maximum bitrate.
Where do you see that it should go up to 16384kbps?

Maybe from the inbuilt Help info - which is fairly generic and out of date and often taken with a pinch of salt ...
Max. Bitrate: Set the maximum bitrate to 32 to 16384 Kbps. The higher value corresponds to the higher video quality, but the higher bandwidth is required.

Note: The limit of the maximum bitrate value varies according to different camera platforms. For some certain cameras, the maximum limit is 8192 Kbps or 12288 Kbps.

You are correct the new 4MP G2 versions cap it at 8Mbps. All my 4MP G1 series go to 16Mbps (and that is on the data sheet). Wonder why they cut it in half? My 8MP G2 bullet goes to 16Mbps … I just assumed it would be the same on the next Gen 4MP cams also.

Available SoC processing power and working memory for the huge analysis blob that does the smart features is my guess.
They also stripped out the flash auto-recovery features (sys1/app1/cfg1 partitions) as there wasn't anywhere near enough space.

You also saved a sale as I cancelled my return request. I love my ColorVu cams and really needed this turret in 6mm. Just have to accept the lower bitrate. Also thanks for the link to the 5.5.160 firmware.

Thanks for setting me straight on this. Next time I won't assume a camera upgrade doesn't also include some downgrades and read the specs carefully.

Unfortunately in many instances, a more capable camera is put on the same CPU/memory as a lower capable camera, so they need to "downgrade" something to make it work. May be bitrate, FPS or something else.

There is a Dahua 8MP camera that limits bitrate and it is too low for many people based on their field of view.

Ended up returning the camera after all. It was to replace my 4mm G1 version and was mounted on the same junction box using the same poe cable. What I thought was a bitrate issue has to be something more - like the lens is out of focus or alignment? I posted a pic of both and the G2 6mm is very "muddy" looking. Tried adjusting all settings and increasing/decreasing noise reduction (and also smoothing) and turning off all HLC/WDR/BLC didn't help - nothing did. Bitrate used was 8192 - both Variable and Constant. Picture always lacks definition. Yes the lens and cover look perfect with no smudges/streaks/etc.

I suspect it is more that the defined focus distance for your newer camera was closer than the previous camera.

Even though it is a fixed cam, many assume it is an infinity focus. In many instances and field of view that is the case, but sometimes certain field of views can more readily show that the camera is focused for a set distance like 10 feet away.

What some have done is taken the camera apart and manually adjusted the focus to their field of view.

I was under the assumption it is exactly infinity focus after a certain distance. In this case 7.5m. The distance of the the view from the lens to the street lamp is 18.9m and should be in focus. From the Hikvision Data Sheet:
Depth Of Focus
2.8 mm, 2.5 m to ∞
4 mm, 3.5 m to ∞
6 mm, 7.5 m to ∞ Being a new camera it should not have been altered from the factory!
