I set up a optical beam (like a garage door kid sensor) at my front porch. If the beam is broken, it opens/closes the input relays on my DS-2CD2432F-IW camera. The camera is configured to send an email when this happens.
I had originally set it up to use the integrated PIR sensor, but it was too sensitive to sunlight variations (particularly early and late sun). Both the PIR and external alarm inputs work great. But, I would rather have BI do the notification.
With the exception of this front porch camera, I've setup all of my cameras on a separate subnet, and killed all internet access to/from that subnet. I just don't like the phone-home capabilities of these cameras and don't trust the vendors not to access them.
Having BI be the gatekeeper for the camera alerts is the ideal solution.
I've followed these instructions which detail how to use external inputs or the PIR with BI, but it doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone (fenderman - I know you're on line 24/7) know how to configure BI so that it watches for the bit change on the alarm input?
