I have the above model Hikvision and so far very happy with it. My question is the cam came with 3 connectors. Power, Ethernet and spliced audio cables color coded. The owners manual states the following for the audio.

1 mic/Line in; 2-2.4 V [p-p]; output impedance:1KΩ, ±10% / 1 output, Line level, impedance: 600Ω

Does this camera have a built in mic or do I need to buy one and connect it manually?

Thanks

I think you will need to add external mic. I didn't see anywhere " mic build in".
This is why you have the external connections available.

Hope this helps

My exprience with mics was only for Casinos, where they use directional pre-amplified mics rear a mix table to inject the LINE signal through the cams.
So not too much familiar with domestic quality where you can find simple mic for less than $5 or a little more accurate with level/gain adjustment for $10.
These last mics, are more ambiant mics with very poor quality and a lot of noise.
But if your compression is G711 (due to Onvif compliance), so that's fine as the quality is just acceptable (phone quality).

I bought a mic for my ds-2cd2132f-is over the front door , and then wrecked the mic trying to split the wires. Then I spotted my pile of old xbox360 headsets. Snapped the mic arm off and wired it in. Works fantastically. I can hear people talking on the street 40 feet away. Added benefit of the arm fits perfectly in the cutout on the rim of the cam, is adjustable, and has a muffler on to reduce wind noise.
