To all you experts,
I recently upgraded my Hikvision DS-7108N-SN/P Chinese NVR which was working fine (with firmware v3.0.10 Build 141128 - English) to v3.0.14 Build 150518, but now ALL cameras are reporting a Language version mismatch and are offline. They are also chinese imports but modified for English.

Questions
1. Even though the web GUI to the NVR is in English, why do I still have a language mismatch?
2. I've tried to downgrade to v3.0.10, but the upgrade process fails from within the GUI. Do I have to use TFTP server to put the firmware back to v3.0.10?
3. If I don't downgrade, do I have to put the chinese firmware back on the IP Cameras to rectifiy the language mismatch problem? But does that mean all the text and days of the week will be chinese?

What would you experts do?

Thanks

It's likely your original firmware had been modified to make the NVR appear as English region, when in reality it was manufactured as Chinese region. The language shown in the web interface doesn't have to match the region setting of the NVR. Consider a multi-language firmware, for example.
If the web downgrade process fails immediately - it may be a language mismatch between NVR and the firmware you are trying to load. The @wzhick Hiktools program can be used to change the language setting in the header of the firmware file - but that will have no effect on the region setting of the NVR.
If the seller could supply you a copy of the firmware that was on the NVR you purchased, that may be one approach.
And if you used the 'mtd hack' to change the cameras region, easy enough to experiment with changing it back to see if the installed firmware gives you full English.

Hi Alastair, thanks for the advice. I contacted the seller and managed to get the original firmware, so I'm back up and running. I need to learn how to modify the chinese firmware to English so that I can upgrade, I'll look into @wizhick Hiktools as you suggested. Thanks again.

Well that was very helpful of the seller, and quick, there seem to have been a few of those instances reported recently. Well done on getting the NVR recovered.

Can you post the firmware?

new first post , i have nearly similar problem

I upgraded my Hikvision DS-7608NI-SE/P Chinese NVR which worked with (firmware v3.0.10 Build 141128 - English) to v3.0.15 Build 150528,
but now 3 cameras are reporting a Language version mismatch 1 network abnormal and 4 camera are online. 5 cameras are chinese imports but region changed and modified for English. It looks like that my cbx patched old cameras 5.20 work s and the newer Chinese makes the problem.

should i region change to English the new Chinese cameras to work with NVR ? Dos the NVR v3.0.15 block the camera if its not the same language?

Thanks for any help

There is a fair selection of firmware versions for the (I) variant of your model here:
http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/index.php?dir=Product Firmware/Recorder/DS-7100NI-SN/
and (N) version here: http://www1.hikvision.com/cn/download_more_699.html#prettyPhoto
and here: http://overseas.hikvision.com/en/download_89.html

But be aware of the possible adverse consequences of updating, especially if there is no guarantee the firmware is the right version, or what was on the NVR as supplied so you can get back where you started.
What is the reason for wishing to upgrade?

I have 3 reasons for wanting to upgrade

1) im looking for the functionality of motion detect sending me snapshots
2) when I login to the web interface using firfox it tells me the plugin is outofdate - if you click to update it - it says the file is missing on my NVR. I have solved this by downloading an updated "webcomponents.exe" from elsewhere and have installed that separately however a better solution would be for the unit to provide the correct file.
3) I associate firmware with stability improvements security improvements bugfixes and the like

There is a very interesting post here explaining how to turn the chinese to show engilish menus (using google to translate from Russian)

I understand that the latest chinese firmware can be downloaded from here http://www1.hikvision.com/cn/download_more_699.html
However it is worth saying that in order to download from a chinese site you need to use a chinese proxy like http://chinaproxy.me

As far as I know the latest firmware is V3.0.17 build150804 (for my NVR as mentioned above. It is worth stressing however I have not actually upgraded anything as yet due to the risks pointed out by Alistair. I just thought I wanted to make a note of the research i had done so far in the hope it might benefit someone.

If anyone does the upgrade - id be very interested in the outcome

1) Make sure the new version works for that (i.e. v3.3.2 for 7600 doesn't and v3.3.4 is a bit flakey - I don't know for 7100 because I haven't set it up).
2) Not sure that will be solved by the newer firmware
3) Bad assumption - (1) being a case and point

But if you are willing to give it a go and happy to tinker then that's fine. But as alastairstevenson says, be aware of the consequences of getting it wrong.

1) Go here
2) Read this entire thread... literally three posts down from this one
3) Then thank @whoslooking once done

Edited to say: I'm on v3.0.13 and it works fine, so if you do want to update then you should be fine.

I'm going to be testing my one when I have got time. Already downloaded and didn't need a proxy... how odd. Just been too busy recently to do it.
