WOW this is killing me right now

I stopped using this about a year ago. Had everything working then all of a sudden it lost all settings and either i forgot my password or it reset to default. Nonetheless i dont know the password

This happened when i orginally received the NVR and i successfully reset the password with the reset tool and SADP. so i know how the process works

So im trying to reset the password. have the correct date and serial without the model number and it will not reset the password. i dont know what to do anymore. ive tried with the model number and serial. ive tried a lot of different things....

i just took the battery out and the date is now 01/01/1970

DS-7608NI-E2/8P0820160420AARR592761607WCVU

been using 0820160420AARR592761607WCVU as serial

i get errqRQQeR for reset code

reformatted hard drive

anyone have any ideas of what else i could try

You could mess around with the serial console.
But this would be pretty easy :
If you do a tftp update of the same firmware that's on it (from the model number it appears to be an upgradeable device) the configuration will be reset back to defaults.
A tftp update does not require authentication.
The Hikvision-specific tftp updater tool and instructions (but not the firmware) from the second link at this post : Custom Firmware Downgrader 5.3.0 Chinese to 5.2.5 English
Firmware choices here (SADP will see what version it is and show this if you have forgotten) : DOWNLOAD PORTAL

In summary:
Drop the tftp updater and the unzipped digicap.dav into a folder on your Windows PC.
Have the PC and the NVR both with wired connections to your switch or router, no WiFi.
Change the PC IP address to 192.0.0.128
Start the tftpserve.exe program.
Click OK to the Windows firewall popup.
Power on the NVR.
Watch the tftp updater status.
When hopefully it shows 'Update successful' shut down the tftp updater.
Wait just a couple of minutes (I don't recall if the 'Update Successful' appears while the flash write is still progressing) and power cycle the NVR.
Check the status / IP address and change it with SADP.
Depending on the firmware version, use 12345 or 123456789abc for the password - or if it's newish firmware, activate with your own choice of password.

Good luck!

That's not an error, just a complaint from the tftp updater when the NVR goes looking for ArecontVision devices on the LAN.

The tftp updater isn't working correctly.
What showed on the ststus? eg 'Test tftp server'
What IP address did it show it initialised on?
Is it a Win10 PC? Can be a bit hit or miss with the tftp updater.

The NVR probe is working OK, that's good.
But it looks like the tftp updater has found nothing to do.
Check that the file digicap.dav is in the same folder as tftpserve.exe

Digcap is a typo that should have been fixed ages back.
The required file is digicap.dav
That should be working - the 'connect client' is confirmation.

I'm wondering what's getting in the way of the tftp updater fully activating.
It's responding to the NVR probe - then going no further.
And you've confirmed that it has the NVR firmware file digicap.dav in the same folder as the tftpserve.exe program.

Suggestion:
Temporarily disable the Windows firewall.
Do you have any network-protection type of AV on the PC? Temporarily disable it.
Windows 7 is usually a reliable platform for this. But do do have another PC to try?

If all else fails - and it shouldn't - there is always the serial console, though arguably it's a bit fiddly.

I will try it on another computer..i just heard back from hikvision password recovery and the file they gave me does not reset the password either.

windows firewall has been 100% disabled
the digicap.dav file is def in the same folder as tftpserve.exe
the tftpserve.exe is on C:/ drive

going to disable my antivirus
try another computer
then maybe you can point me into some instructions to do the serial console before i buy a new one

thanks for all the help

That's frustrating.
You've done the normal checks.

One more question that just occurred to me - presumably you're not running Windows as a VM?
Presumably not based on the WinXP you mentioned.

And the PC and NVR are not directly connected, they are both wired to a switch or router?

Have you used Wireshark?

what do you mean by VM?

Ive tried both way, with the NVR connected directly to the computer and with the NVR and computer connected to router

never used wireshark. going to download it now and see what its about....yeah dont know what im doing with wireshark

what do you mean by VM?
A 'Virtual Machine'. A guest application or operating system, running within a different host supervisory machine.
I had a recollection of an instance of tftp updater odd problems and it was down to Windows running in a virtual environment.

can you point me in the direction to the instructions for serial console?
Two items are required, readily available from your favourite on-line store:

PL2303HX TTL serial to USB convertor, often sold 'For Arduino'.
4-pin 1.5mm JST ZH wired connector, usually sold in 10-packs.

But we must be missing something here.
When the tftp updater shows 'Connect client' that suggests it should work.

The process is very simple.
Connect the USB convertor to the connector, plug it in to the NVR, power on the NVR and interrupt the bootloader.
Have a tftp server running, and the firmware file to be applied.
Answer 2 questions about IP addresses, confirm to do the update, and that's it.

But it does seem like a long way round to do a password reset.
But I can't think of something that's been missed that would stop the usual tftp updater from fully working.

What version of firmware is on the NVR?
