easy way to turn off motion detection DS-7608N-E2/8P

I was wondering is the only way to turn off motion detection to either log in through browser and change the schedule of each camera individually or going to nvr and changing the schedule from there or turning the whole system off?

The reason why I'm asking this is because we use the system in garage. People come and go throughout the day, basically we can't have a specific schedule. But it would be nice to be able to turn off the motion detection when "friendly" people are present. When leaving, it would be nice to be able to turn on the system as easily.

Have I missed some obvious setting? If not, I guess the system sucks a bit. If I review every two weeks who has been walking in certain areas (for example side doors, yard) it sucks if I have to go through mostly just clips where there are friendly people. Furthermore, if there was a easy way to turn off the cameras when friendly people are present, it would help a lot to discover potentially unfriendly people (if certain car keeps comes every now and then to check out the place) or if unfriendly people try to break in, but at the time they can't be recognized, it would be good to check out previous recordings fast if there has been similar types of people checking out the place earlier (maybe that recording could provide valuable information). But if the hdd is mostly full of friendly people, this will not be fast and it will limit the capacity.

I hope shutting down the NVR is not the only option. Our NVR is located in a place with not so easy access.

Could alarm input be used somehow? Most of my cameras have it.

I had a look at this, even studied the Hikvision CGI docs, but didn't come up with anything that wasn't essentially a reconfiguration command that requires an admin privilege to operate.
The closest potentially was the command to change the recording schedule, but I didn't get anything worth posting.

Does the NVR model have alarm inputs (DS-7608NI-E2/8P/A)?
If yes, you can easily activate record type "Motion & Alarm", then put simple ON/OFF switch to trigger the alarm input. You will have records only when both motion detection is present, and the switch is in ON position.

Well that's an interesting idea. Certainly worthy of a test. If no alarm input on the NVR, I wonder if the same concept could be configured on a camera with an alarm input, like a pass-through?

You might be able to use a zwave device so that this can be turned on/off remotely...

Dreamboat, excellent point. The NVR does not have alarm inputs (do any?), but most cameras that I'm using have it. But setting the schedule to motion/alarm is not going to help, i think. There is no motion AND alarm setting, right? Instead it is motion OR alarm, which ever is activated starts the recording.

I could do for one camera so that I attach for example a normally open PIR sensor to it, then a switch, which prevents the sensor to close. Then would have the camera setting to record alarm only. Unfortunately this is not possible with all cameras. I have most cameras outside, only rj45 cable going there, so I will not have anything to power up the PIR sensor. Plus wiring the switch is not worth it.

I've just made a test, and it works like a charm.
What you need:
1. NVR, regardless if the NVR has alarm inputs. In my case I used DS-7608NI-E2/8P/A, fw v3.3.2 build 150522
2. Ipcamera with alarm I/O. In my case I used DS-2CD2432F-IW, fw v. 5.3.0 build 150513
3. Set recording type "Motion & Alarm" (Motion AND Alarm) for all the cameras. Please note this record type you cannot "see" if you use iVMS4200. You have to set it either locally or through a web browser (in case of the latest firmware).
4. Enable IP cam alarm input, and set it to trigger all the cameras in the system.

That's all..

And one more tweak.. if you loop alarm output into the alarm input, you can control the whole process remotely (zwave device was mentioned before, I think this is unnecessary).
I tested using the latest iVMS4200 version 2.3.1.3, and it works fine.
iVMS4500 on my mobile cannot recognize IPC alarm output, but only the NVR alarm output. Probably that will be fixed in a future.

Hey Dreamboat, that is a fantastic idea of connecting the output with the input. I cannot figure out how to get Milestone to recognise a PIR event on the 2432 cube, but this may just do it! I will have a play!
