First of all, Please be generous my poor English. I'm not good at English since I'm a foreigner, Korean.

I did an experiment on heat of IP cameras depending on electrical sources.

The reason why I did this experiment is.. one of my IP cameras is hotter than another.
But both of them are the same model, 2CD2085FWD-I.
the only difference is electrical source. One uses 12VDC adapter, the other one uses 48VDC PoE Injector as source.

So I put forth hypothesis.
Premises :
- The only electrical source of this IPC is 12VDC.
- Step-down Circuit is in the IPC.
- If 48VDC provides, this voltage is stepped down to 12VDC.
- In this process Step-down circuit makes heat.
a Conclusion :
- Therefore an IPC which uses PoE as an electrical source is hotter than an IPC which uses 12V adapter as an electrical source.

and then I bought two IP cameras, DS-2CD1121-I.
and I also prepared a PoE Injector, an adapter and an infrared thermometer.

This is the result of the experiment.

TEST 1 TEMP., ℃ Power On Hours Electric source
IP CAM. 1 (4mm) 36.2 01:30 12VDC Adapter
IP CAM. 2 (6mm) 39.5 48VDC PoE Injector
Ambient 28.6

POWER OFF TEMP., ℃ Power Off Hours Electric source
IP CAM. 1 (4mm) 29.3 00:50
IP CAM. 2 (6mm) 29.3
Ambient 29.3

TEST 2 TEMP., ℃ Power On Hours Electric source
IP CAM. 1 (4mm) 38.5 01:30 48VDC PoE Injector
IP CAM. 2 (6mm) 36.4 12VDC Adapter
Ambient 28.4

and This is the way what I test.

Through the experiment, I get data which tell me the fact that to use PoE as an electrical source makes more heat than 12V DC adapter, Right?

but I'm not sure whether cause of heat is step-down circuit. Possibly there may be another reason.

Guys! What do you think about this topic and my experiment?
Please share your opinion.

There are no images in your write up.
What is the make and model of the POE switch. What is the POE standard used for the switch.
It is WATTS that generate heat, not volts. A well designed switch will not sent mode watts to the camera then was negotiated.
Please study up on the power negotiation of POE.
