False alarm discussion

There are guys on here whom do remote video monitoring services, @bababouy does it and sends scum bags to jail on a regular basis.. However usually these are used by commercial entities because they really are weighing the costs of hiring a guard to sit on-site all night long vs cost of contracting a remote company to watch all the feeds, im sure its very cost effective in this case but for residential monitoring might be too steep for most people to consider.
monitoring companies like this also depends heavily on actual sensors not video based motion in most cases.

why are they based on sensors and not cameras? I think it is price like nayr said...
But if it was cheap I would take it (30-40$/month) what do you think guys?

So we're clear I was referring to a monitoring company for cameras like bababouy's. A company like this doesn't want a false alert every time the wind blows or a spider or moth goes in front of the camera, so they use real motion detectors and photoelectric beams as much as possible. Sensors like this are more reliable than camera based motion detection. I wouldn't be surprised if they either won't monitor somebody unless the system conforms to certain specs or charge more for non-conforming setups that consume more man hours. They aren't watching every camera ever second of the day, they cycle between things and check what's going on if they get an alert.

You are pretty much correct. We do take on properties with pre-existing camera systems and we do our best to work with whats already there, but it's not always the most ideal situation. Some of the time we have to change out an NVR or add a couple of cameras or PIRs. In our business, the camera installation is the big expense. We try to keep that cost to a minimum, especially when the customer is on a tight budget. Some times we end up eating the costs on a small upgrade, because it does benefit us and makes our service more effective. Our customer's aren't usually concerned with the resolution or quality of the video, in fact most of the time they don't even look at the cameras or want access to them remotely. The just want our service and they want us to do our thing. Let me know if you need some help setting up your home camera system to work more effectively. That's the reason that we post on here is to pass on our experience and to share with others in this world of stopping bad guys.

I use Hikvision camera's for my office as a alarm. I only have activated "intrusion detection". The motion detection is turned off because it gives false alarm... Afther putting some energy in the configuration works fine for me. Never had a false alarm since.

I work a very long time with MD and i like it. I do not like to look through all the video-files to see if something happend. But as Nayr pointed out, on my Dahuas i record everything and have MD on additional. Not every system can do this. Look at the picture, the green line is recording, on the yellow spot there was motion which was picked up.

Just on more example on MD:

in the picture you can see the sensed area is far away from the tree branch. In summer it is mutch lower because of the leaves and the nut´s.
Still everything will be picked up by the cam. Since last year i have a high fence arount my property. Before that i was visited by deer from time to time. I do not record all the time, MD is triggered 4 times a day or so (its mostly my cat).

That's one thing that makes me second guess wanting to do that stuff, having to deal with all the cheap ass small businesses and stuff who only want to spend like $200 and expect 15 cameras and just can't understand why it costs so much, hell the company I work for us pretty good size and they ONLY put cameras where clients REQUIRE them. We've had a few people have their cars hit in the parking lot and they refuse to add cameras.
