First Dahua camera. Very nice. 2.8mm fisheye was a bit unexpected though.

I guess it's good for some installations but motion sensing is a nightmare here. Too much wildlife and insects moving about.
BI has some impressive tuning controls. Also, the Dahua cameras with IVS remove most of that junk as well.

Its not for everyone though of course.

so i take the risk and meet some suppliers from china and order some models that we have here and it is the same original upgradeble products. So now i can order whatever i want from the china suppliers.
Andy used to be able to get Dahua-branded equipment when requested. Not sure how his prices for that would compare to your China suppliers though.

The IVS feature in the 5442s should have a "vehicle" and "person" filters you can tick that should reduce false alerts for wildlife/insects. But you'll need either a Dahua (or OEM Dahua) NVR or a VMS that supports IVS (like Blue Iris or Synology Surveillance Station) to make the most of that feature.

IVS ? will have to do my research.

I also have a kangaroo or 2 visit at night to nibble the grass on the paddock (few acres here). That would annoy me going off all the time.

In general though I just don't have the need to run a PC all the time with software when an NVR will do the job I want with hardly any power overhead.
You saw the NVR I am using right ? :)

I am sure that in many other instances the Blue software would be perfect for someone though. Just not me.

Your cameras are AI (can recognise human and vehicle) so get an NVR 4xxx or higher series and you will get very good results i think. Compare the prices from sellers through internet and get the best one but be carefull the chinese versions because you can't upgrade their firmware.

Ahh... AI you say, ok nice. Will have to have a play with that for sure.

This was in my cart on ebay ?

I just hope it will work with my grandstream cameras. GXV3672HD and GXV3672FHD's

Nice cameras but no where near as good at night as this new one. To be fair they are very old now (about 8 years from memory maybe more).

About the same LED range though which surprised me as there only seem to be 2 on the new camera compared to a gazzilion on the grandstreams.

If they dont work you simple buy new. Heheh make good choices for your system . It worth the money. I saw many systems of my friends and how horrible is the night view and believe me it worth to spend some money for it.

Yup..... agreed. I like this camera already. Cheap really for what you get. Starts adding up for a few though so would rather phase the old ones out as they go bung. No need to burn money right ? :)

edit: I only bought it because the old one fell off and I saw a you tuber reviewing one. You hear the name around too so meh ... why not get a "brand name" hey ?

Well well. After playing around a bit today with the camera I have found that I might indeed use the AI functions. They seem pretty robust and might be somewhat false alarm proof. Worth a shot in any event.
Something else I found was a fisheye correction setting. Didn't actually do much other than crop the image. Kind of useless IMO.

The best part is they work "on camera" and don't even need an NVR. Welcome to the surveillance state ! :-)

Well .. I have had a bit of rain now and a few more days of night vision to play with.

A couple of observations.

1. Night time rain performance is quite frankly astounding. My other cameras have this white haze of rain but this camera almost seems to have some kind of "rain filter" that makes it almost vanish. Simply incredible.

2. With a bit of adjustment almost all the night time "bug triggering" I usually have with the older cameras is pretty much eliminated with this one. Sure if a spider sets up on the lens it will be trouble I guess, but in general the "flying bug triggers" I get on the old cameras are a thing of the past. Nice to be able to get some real trigger results for review for a change.

Something I did not know (didn't know much I admit) before buying this was the limits of AI settings regarding multiple settings.
For instance you don't seem to be able to have face recognition and other AI functions on together. Fair enough I guess but it's not made very clear exactly what works with what.

My setup is a trip wire and motion trigger. I get a trigger on every car or human that goes into either area. Very reliable too so far. Good work Dahua.
