Flashing a "Lorex/FLIR LNR110" series back to Dahua FW ?

I've had this unit up and running for about 1.5 years now but there's been no updates from Lorex ever since I got it. I bought it by itself and running 1 Lorex 2mp cam and 6 other various Dahua 3 to 4mp cams that I've purchased over the last year.

I see the equivelent Dahua unit is this.. DHI-NVR4108-8P and looks like this..

Where as my FLIR/Lorex unit is black and looks like this..

Does anyone have one of these units or flashed them back to the Dahua FW? If so the phone or web app prob won't work any more correct?

Sorry to bump this thread, but I have a similar question, but this is for Lorex cameras. Have a couple of colleagues that bought that Lorex 4K Camera from Costco--but they can't seem to gain access to its smart features. @mat200

I should have mentioned IVS and face detection, this seems to be absent in Lorex, QSee, Amcrest and others

I was surprised that LaView has this feature in their rebranded Hikvision cameras, but unfortunately doesn’t work with Dahua rebranded NVR (or anything other than Hikvision)

I mean I understand some like the simplicity of buying local, even when you try to encourage them not to otherwise.

Yes, those seemed to be not implemented by the various re-brands of Dahua OEM products. Perhaps they think the market segment of consumers would call them too many times to attempt to figure out how to use it and thus they want to have more simple controls? perhaps they want NOT to compete against the professional installation companies?

Many of those deals at Costco and those listed at SD are very well priced, however those picking them up will have to realize that any kit they get for <$1000 will have some significant compromises.

As those cameras have an available rtsp feed, I would recommend your friends who picked them up to consider upgrading to a Blue Iris setup to process and alert - they should be able to do a dual setup, this way if a thief finds the NVR they would still have a Blue Iris PC with a copy of the video ;-)

I can’t even persuade some to use Blue Iris because they don’t want to spend extra on a new system build. They prefer the NVR + Multi-Camera bundle thinking they’ll save

Thanks, some of these individuals need to step into the 21st century. I’ve explained them how a basic setup goes, but then the blank stare is something not enthralling. I can only imagine what licensed folks go through in a post-install environment, lol

I can probably advise them to use a tablet or phone in conjunction with their NVR as even their cameras do not contain MicroSD slots

Only worth a try, seems like a good way to start a side-business, lol

I'll pitch in to add..... If you email Lorex support they might send you the original firmware. They did for me - I told them we need it for recovery if some firmware upgrade at some point in the future goes wrong or we need to go back for some reason or another. What I have will not help you though, totally different models.

I can say this though. As I noted in another thread the newer Lorex NR9163 NVR is a rebranded Dahua NVR52A16-16P-4KS2 and using a serial connection is can be updated to the Dahua firmware with all the Dahua features back that the Lorex firmware strips out. I have not tried flashing it back to Lorex firmware but I probably will just to confirm. That being said, there is no guarantee that even it it can now, that it will be able to in the future. For example if Dahua implements some new sort of security checks like encrypted signed firmware they are now using. I've seen many times over the years from various companies that some version of firmware is a one-way street, in other words once upgraded, there is no going back, ever.

I've also been trying on one of the Lorex cameras, a LNE-4172S which is a rebranded Dahua IPC-HDW1431S and so far have not had any luck getting that to take the Dahua firmware. I have a TTL serial adapter and can get into the serial console no problem but it seems that the Lorex firmware is written to a different memory address so when I try to load the Dahua firmware it errors that there is not enough free space. The Dahua HDW1431S has some IVS like tripwire but the Lorex firmware on that camera strips that out (it just has basic motion detection which is better than nothing). Interestingly with the NVR (with the Dahua firmware on it) will let me go through all the steps of creating an IVS tripwire function, and even lets me save and it says successfully saved, when I go back into IVS on that channel the tripwire rule I created is gone. I have a Dahua camera as well and it does save IVS rules created on the NVR but I still have to do some things on the camera itself like configuring PTZ presets, PTZ tour, etc. The NVR can control the PTZ on the Dahua camera but it cannot configure it.

I still have not given up on getting Dahua firmware on the Lorex cams though. I just need to figure out out to erase the current firmware from the memory space before I try loading the Dahua which I think might work. Of course I do run the risk of totally bricking the cam trying that. lol
