Forum technical problems getting bad?

Keep in mind the latest AI generated posts now look legit. Sometimes these automated bots post interesting questions, other times they provide assistance that seems valid. All the while, we humans are unaware that they aren't real people that need real help. None of this "helpful" activity is done to assist us.

Along with a lot of other reasons, these fake interactions allow them to improve their language models. Because the people operating these things have a long term goal that is not in our best interest. Letting them get away with it just means they get increasingly better at fooling us every day.

Unfortunately it is getting harder to detect them. I've heard that the majority of social media posts are now either human assisted AI, or fully automated AI. And now these AI actors are spreading to every forum they can get into.

I'm not AI. Or maybe I am. It's getting hard to know for sure.

it's not a problem of boots generating posts...

this is problem that now have thousands of AI startups creating own AI chats..

And for that they must feed the neural network with gigabytes of texts that have meaning and knowledge..

where they get that? they crawl the web and retrieve text from websites..

knowledge site (like wikipedia), newspapers and forums are best sources for texts for that AI chat bots..

so each of that AI startups, have crawlers which try to retrieve each page from each site.. and they slow downs now many websites..

ps. ipcamtalk.com (as many websites) are using cloudflare as proxy / CDN.
You don't connect with ipcamtalk.com server but with any of the thousands cloudflare proxy servers distributed over all world..
Real upcamtalk.com server is hidden (it's own IP is know for forum admins and cloud flare).

Cloudflare have services / features to blocks AI crawlers.. but they must be enabled in config page by forum/website admin...

I have been having problems logging into several websites that use cloudflare including ar15 where I am a lifetime sponsor. anyway a spot to check into a group for times like these would be great

I’ll look into what it takes to setup a FB group. Can you have multiple Admins?

It wouldn’t replace IPCT, just an emergency contact point in case of the worst happening

I do wonder how much of it is the CDN as it seems to affect people from different continents.

Then of course the bigger question, is it a $ thing, a technical infrastructure thing, or a time/management thing?

I’m sure on each we have members who would gladly help if we knew more.

no, it's not cloudflare.. they are very big and good.
bigest websites in internet works using cloudflare...

I don't known details, but I think ipcamtalk.com is hosted on some VPS...
VPS is small part of some server, it can be 1/1000 of it or 1/100 or 1/10 of physical server..
depending which options was selected & how much is payed for that..

cloudflare can do caching (mostly images & static files).. but for dynamic pages (forum) they always connect with true server behind...
if it is overloaded, then we have slowdowns or no-connects..

it all comes down to current administration by someone with fast reactions to problems..
and choosing a more powerful machine/hosting option..
which requires money...

ps. who is owner of this forum?

As much as I hate Reddit.
I think it would be more private than F_ckbook

I would say move over to BI forum, but that knocks out a lot of good folks here.

A temp option to reconvene if this site shuts down and figure out could be the forum on Andy's website?

One more time:

who is owner of this forum?

I don't ask for admin (@Mike), but someone is paying for hosting / domain and getting money from ads / BI reselling / user subscriptions...

Forum owner is first person, who we should ask about forum future and solving actual problems...
