H all. I'll apologize in advance becasue I know there are other posts on this topic but with not quite my hardware--and I just can't get it to work.

Anyway, I have this camera:

Wired to this Mike:

In the Config on my Hikvision NVR, I'm using the "Video&Audio" stream. I am using the default codec set to "mic in".

I have it physically wires per the attached photo thanks to some other post on this site.

It needs to be a passive setup. It's a POE cam with no way to plug in a mic nearby.

All I hear is a low hiss from Liveview. My minidome audio (integrated mic), works just fine. Thanks in advance!

Ok. Looks like an option... but there are Mic's that do not require power correct? That would be preferable. I don't think I could fit all that stuff in the junction box behind the camera

Hi Fenderman. That much is clear. But identifying a passive mic is not easy... in fact I thought this was one. Most mic's for sale that I've find do not explicitly say that they can be used passively or require power. Do you happen to have some example that might work?

I personally dont use external mics...but here is a thread with a link to a radioshack model that should work https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/1949-Help-with-Sound-on-Hikvision-DS-2CD2732F-I(S)-camera?p=17091&viewfull=1#post17091

it depends if the camera even supports a passive mic with its own preamp.. if its not picking up anything w/out power than its likely a line-in and not a mic-in.. and he has to power it.

I have some cameras with both mic-in and line-in options, if I set it to mic-in I can leave the mic unpowered and it still picks up audio.. not as sensitive as when I power it and use line in.. other cameras only accept line-in.

then mebe its setup for line-in right now, if he wants to run it unpowered he has to configure it for mic-in.. I would presume line-in is the default as its safe.

Hi,

I also sought a long time for a good micro, but these from China on ali were not good quality, lots of noise and hiss. Finally I bought an electret microphone capsule from Panasonic (WM53), using the cam's internal ampli ("mic in"). By far the best sound quality I got in my tests.

Got them from Germany:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Panasonic-Microphonekapsel-WM-53B-pintyp-20x-Funkam-/311338681205 (20 pcs)

You just have to solder a little bit and put some heat shrink tubes on the cables and on the mic (not on the pic)
