Retired RN wife (25 years) says ports can be a BIG source of infection unless meticulously maintained, leaks of cancer meds onto outer skin layer can cause lots of issues.

Between when my cancer was discovered and the gene test results came back it was assumed I'd be going on chemo and I came within a week of having the port installed. It frankly scared me, mainly because of the part where a tube is inserted into the jugular. I was extremely relieved to find out that my treatment ended up being an oral med. On the other hand, someone I knew had an advanced kidney cancer with treatment using the port. It was close to hopeless, but they pulled her through. The port is now out and didn't have any complications. There is a possibility of the port coming back in my future, and I'll probably be just as scared of it again.

Yeah it likely got off track when @David L mentioned his work ethic (as well as that of many of us other old farts) when he was young and I mentioned that as weak and rundown as I am with chemo right now I could probably still outwork my lazy, excused-filled stepson......so it's on me, I guess.
