General App question

Blue Iris does not have a built in HTTPS server. You would have to set up a 3rd party program to proxy connections to Blue Iris, which I suspect is a bit more complicated than you need right now.

When I was in blue iris option, web server tab, it has box checked for enable http on web server port 81. I assume when setting up app on iphone ,I thought I needed the box checked for https . I guess I did not realize http and https are different .

Is an app really necessary? Would it not suffice to simply give people a link to the web interface?

...and what would the link to the web interface be??

App working good! I do have a question.. If i close app with it still use data? or do i need to exit out?

http://HOST_NAME:PORT/

If BI listens on port 80, then you can leave out the :PORT so it is just

http://HOST_NAME/

where you replace HOST_NAME with your public ip address or dynamic dns address.

My reason for suggesting the DDNS service, is it could become a little difficult keeping track of the external IP. Especially if it is updated while needing to access it external to the network.

Yes, DDNS is great for this. I use it even though my dynamic IP has not changed in all the years I've had service here.

It should stop using data and CPU when closed/hidden. This is standard behavior for almost all mobile apps (the exceptions are buggy apps and apps explicitly designed to do things in the background).

That must be very convenient for some things, I haven't come across a dynamic service that remains static for any lengthy period of time. In my experience, most ISP DHCP servers will issue a new IP address to the connecting device as soon as a connection is initiated. In other words, every time a modem/router is rebooted it will receive a new address.

you can also use something free like ipcamviewer by robert chou but they will not have access to recorded video..

I see ip cam viewer is 3.99. I am trying cam viewer

The question I have is:
what Address do I use? comast? my ip?

Enter your dynamic dns address if you set one up...or your external ip address followed by the port :XXXX where XXXX is you port number..just like in the example...

I did not set a dynamic dns up yet, I just used the comcast ip. I am gathering it will change soon. What is a good service? And free? How does the service work? Meaning how does it route to my house when comcast ip changes?

I had someone set me up using noip with vnc but it wanted you to update every month.pain in ass

I think most folks use no ip...
These services check your ip to make sure it hasnt changed..if it does it updates your account...you can a router, camera, or desktop app to update the account.
I just got sick and tired of the update and pay for dyndns...i have many host names for various pc's/nvrs so it makes sense to me.

DYDNS was the undisputed first choice in dynamic DNS :encouragement: but that was before they scrapped the five free hosts. Lots of people were upset about it, and NoIP took advantage of the opportunity. I have never really used NoIP myself and would prefer not to. For a few dollars per year with DYDNS, you can have a bunch of hosts and an excellent service!
