Most North American flying squirrels ARE nocturnal and stay out of sight during the day.
I did not know that, maybe that is why I only see gray/grey squirrels here in South Jersey.. Lol..

My wife feeds everything that comes into the yard. That wouldn't "fly" with her. 
We've not seen any damage that we can attribute to flying squirrels, we've had them for 20+ years.
There were actually 4 flyers on the tree at the time, two were on the side away from the camera at that moment.
