Neighbor gave me a 10-year-old gaming box (Dell XPS 2 Duo CPU E8500@3.16GHz), which seems reasonably quick in spite of it's age.

Thinking about moving BI from my regular desktop (I-7) PC to the Dell and making the Dell a dedicated BI box - running headless in my LAN closet.

But, of course, I'm running 64-bit BI on the I-7 PC.

Six cams running at 1920x1080.

The Question:
Is it worth the hundred-and-twenty bucks to purchase Windows 10 for the Dell so I can keep on using 64-bit BI?

No, i would look for a dedicated used or refurbished SFF (Small Form Factor) HP or Dell system with a i5-6500 or at least a 4th gen i5 or i7 cpu in it. They are quite cheap in the USA i believe. And they are x64, so always better :D

HP Elitedesk or Prodesk are nice systems. And Dell has nice Optiplex 7040. Plenty of power, no problems with win10, and the newer ones come with windows 10.

its not even worth your time..that machine is junk...you can buy an i5-3570 with windows 10 pro installed for 100 bux. That machine belongs in the garbage. Likely wont even run your cams.

And it will use a lot more electricity than a newer machine
