Hello,
I am new this forum, but it looks to be the perfect community to help me solve my problem, my friend has a Hikvision DS-7204HQHI DVR NVR, it has one channel for an ip camera, so he got a cheap ip camera from ALDI called a MAGINON vision IP security Camera, he tryed to set them up but failed, so he brought them, to me, at first i taught it would probably be simple enough, but i never really had experience with cameras to be honest, i have connected into though its web interface after i connected it to my home network, and i then changed it ip to a static ip address(192.168.1.111), i then set up the hikvision and also gave that a static ip(192.168.1.110), i then went to configuration and added an ip camera, i manually filled in the info and pressed okay but it said network is unreachable, so i double checked there subnets and default gateways and ports, but i what i speculate the problem is to do with the protocol or maybe a firewall issue, but i have very little experience with cameras, and im not sure what to dow with the protocals on the hikvision, it only give two options, Hikvision and ONVIF

it said network is unreachable,
That does usually suggest that there is a problem with the IP addresses of the camera and the NVR LAN interface being on different IP address ranges.
But what you've quoted for the addresses is OK.
So that's a bit odd.
It would be worth double-checking what you've set.

On the assumption you get that sorted out - it sounds like you need to find out a bit more about the camera.
Cameras with Maginon firmware are pretty common, and the ones I've seen support ONVIF.
So it would be worth querying the camera with the very good Windows open-source tool ONVIF Device Manager, from sourceforge.net to see if it ONVIF compatible.
Onvif Device Manager v2.2.250

If so, and if the camera is on the same address range as the PC (it will be if you can access the web GUI) ODM will find the camera automatically.
Give it some logon credentials (top left of the window) and you will see lots of info about the camera.

To configure the camera in the DVR as an ONVIF device, you'll need the 'ONVIF port'.
You can see that in the URL at the bottom of the 'Identification' page.

To configure the camera as a 'Generic RTSP' device, if your DVR supports that, you will need the RTSP URL, which can be seen at the bottom of the 'Live Video' page.

Hello, Thanks for reading and replying, i downloaded the Onvif Device Manager, it dident detect the ip camera automatically so i added it manually, but its giving me no information, i also loged in on the top.

That suggests it's not ONVIF compatible - which is a pity as you would get lots of info. The ODM error is just normal web HTTP stuff.
It might also explain why you get the 'network unreachable' error when trying to connect as ONVIF on the DVR.
Does the DVR allow a Generic RTSP connection - does it have the 'Custom protocol' feature?

I don't suppose the camera web GUI has any ONVIF enable / disable configuration?

I did a little poking around on the Maginon site and looked at the specs on a few of their cameras, no place did I find they were Onvif compatible.

i cant find any Onvif configurations on the cameras GUI, and on the DVR i also cant find any RTSP connections, and it also dont have a costume protocol feature

So, you have a $20 Dollar proprietary camera that was purchased at Aldi's. What did you expect? Sounds like you Got what you paid for. You can download the datasheets for these cameras and see why its not working. If it works with their VMS be thankful.

Okay, thank you very much for your corporation, ill just take it that it cant be done. but thanks again
kind Regards
