Hi everyone,

I had been using a cheap, 8 channel, Lorex system (1080p not IP), that I purchased on sale at Costco a few years back. Many features did not work, it had to be sent back for repair after 4 months and now just finally died. All that said I am looking to upgrade to something that is reliable, better quality, and will allow for future expansion along with better video clarity.

I contacted Nelly's and had them custom price the following:

NSN-7164K-16P 16 channel 4K NVR with 8 tb HD,
8 x NSC-2X8G-DM 4K (8mp) turret cam
8 x 100' premade cat5e cables

The quote was for around $2,600.

My question is for this amount of money is this the best I can do, do I need to spend this much to get a quality system?

Thanks in advance,

Earl

Define quality ?

Do not get sucked into the the more mp the better.

What are your requirements? Where will you mount the cameras. House pictures with where you will mount the cameras.

Are you concerned about night video?

Test do not guess on the cameras. If you plan on using an NVR, I would buy the 16 channel NVR, as long as the NVR will support other vendors cameras.

Buy one variable focus camera.

Read the posts about using a 5gallon bucket 8 ft 2x4 for testing camera locations.

Read the cliff notes in the wiki. The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.
