Hey there,

I'm new here in the Ip Camera universe and need a little help. I'm thinking about buying cameras for a house.
I have uploaded a simple site plan which I have drawn.
sketch.PNG
Which cameras are the most suitable for me to buy? I already have an IPC-T5442TM-AS (3.6mm) from EmpireTek.
And also which PoE switches should I get and how many?
I would also like to send the recordings to a NAS so that I can view everything at my 1st home. What software do I need for this? And can any camera do this?
I also have a barn on the property where I also want to use another 4 cameras, but this is 100 meters + away. Will the signal via cable then be too weak and how can I amplify it?
  • The cameras will be mounted at a height of about 2.7 meters.
  • I want cameras with AI functions that recognize people and movement.
  • The camera should have night vision and color image.
  • Also I want to check live feed of the cameras on my phone + computer.
  • And the cameras should have alarms to notify me.

Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for my cluelessness :')

P.S.: I hope that is the right forum to post this

Welcome @Spectr4l

What is the functional needs that you are looking to accomplish ?
( example, keep an eye on the children when they are outside, bird watching, watch my dog, see if a parking spot is taken, .. )

In general, if you are new to this :

1) Get one good 4MP 1/1.8" varifocal camera, good length of cat5e/5 23 24 AWG ( or similar in EU ) copper wired cable, a small PoE switch ( can use other power sourcing equipment, but normally people will want a small switch eventually so why not start with one imho ) and setup a test rig ..

2) test test test before drilling holes and buying all sorts of cameras you imagine you need.

The cameras are intended for surveillance of the property.
Do you have any examples of exactly which cameras I should buy? Preferably from empiretek...

Hi @Spectr4l

So you want to watch the property ? Then I would put the cameras on the outside facing towards the property ..

OR do you want to watch what comes to the property ?

If so, then you will need MORE cameras than you have on your sketch based on what I have seen others do here

If you have more secure neighbors, then you can put more cameras on the "front" of the building / house.

Hi again @mat200

Sorry, I expressed myself incorrectly in this case. I don't want to monitor the house itself, but everything around it.
I'm not quite sure whether I really need more. There is actually nothing around the house, so you have a good view.
That's why the cameras which are in the sketch should be enough.
I don't have any direct neighbours, as the property is around 18,000m² in size.

Your thread and post here is fine. You asked for which cameras you should buy and I posted a link to the cameras we commonly recommend.

HI @Spectr4l

Check out the DORI section of the cliff notes.

The wider the FOV the shorter the DORI ranges ..

Camera DORI specifics are often also listed by the camera OEM .. though they use a less dense pixel count to get longer DORI ranges.

Hey @mat200

I think I found the cameras that suit for the house:

IPC-B54IR-Z4E
or
IPC-B52IR-Z12E

But back to these two questions, which I have not yet had answered:
I would also like to send the recordings to a NAS so that I can view everything at my 1st home. What software do I need for this?
I also have a barn on the property where I also want to use another 4 cameras, but this is 100 meters + away. Will the signal via cable then be too weak and how can I amplify it?
