Hello all, I need help with a Hikvision DS-2CD2032. I can’t access the ip camera outside of my home network. I tried port forwarding based on what I read and my search on this forum but still, no connection to the camera. I am at my wits end. I am a rookie when it comes to networking so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

My router is a Netgear AC1450 and my first try was to use the UPnP assigned port instead of port forwarding. it works on another ip camera I have (non Hikvision).

Router uPnP Portmap for the Hikvision:
Int Port: 8000, Ext Port: 46262
Int Port: 80, External Port: 38342
Int Port: 554, Ext Port: 554

So on the address line, I used the router’s external ip address and port: 71.231.xxx.xx:46262 but no connection. I tried 38342 and still no connection.

I then moved to Port Forwarding and created:
Internal start/end Port 8000/8000 to External start/end Port: 46262
Internal start/end Port 80/80 to External start/end Port: 38342

Tried 71.231.xxx.xx:46262 and 38342 and still no go.

I used other External start/end Port numbers like 9200, 9300, etc and still no go.

I did not change the camera’s network settings.

thanks for reading. Ron

Welcome to the forum..
Disable upnp...
Post a screenshot of your network settings ip/tcp tab
How are you trying to remote access? pc? phone? If phone what app?
Also are you actually trying from a remote location or from inside your network using your external address? if you are trying internally, it may be a nat loop back issue...
Have you tried to see if the ports are open? canyouseeme.org

Thanks for the suggestions. The quick answers:

I have an Intel Mac Desktop and tried from Safari, Firefox. From Windows XP using Explorer.
I tried accessing from an iPhone using two free apps, NetcamViewer and CamViewer. All above, I am using the router's external address: 71.231.xxx.xx:46262 and I tried 38342. For the iPhone apps I also entered admin and the camera's password.

My other ip camera (Sharx) has zero problems connecting to the apps and by the router's external address and by uPnP using Safari, Fox or XP Explorer.

I did disable UPnP in one of several troubleshooting failures and I used the Port Forwarding values above. I can try again, what port values should I use?

Sorry but what is ip/tcp tab? I am in the router's setup and clicking around but I don't see it.

Thanks again.

The tab is in the camera settings....
When you access the camera from the web browser you need to use the http port..not the media port..
For the iphone you need to use the media port...
Did you test the ports in canyouseeme?

put your router info into the ipv4 default gateway...
yes media port is the server port 8000 and http is 80...
Test it again with canyouseeme....then report back if the ports are open
Also, who is your ISP and what is the modem model you are using.
If you are only going to use the mobile app you dont need to forward anything other than the media port 8000....

Comcast is my ISP, Surfboard 6121 modem

As far as the ipv4 default gateway, not sure if I am using the right one. The router under internet ip address has the one I am using 71.231.xxx.xx and another one titled gateway ip address 71.231.xxx.x. Which one?

No, your routers ip address is probably something like 192.168.1.1

Here's the updated tcp/ip screen with the router's address

I noticed the router's mask is different. 255.255.248.0, does this matter?

Also, when I click test on the tcp/ip screen, i get address is not used.

After the camera rebooted, I see new port values and I tried with uPnP on, still no connection.
You suggested I turn off uPnP, so in Port forwarding, do you set the range as 8000/8000 and 80/80 with the new port values from the camera?

Forget my last question. I can access from the apps and Safari. That was it, I didn't have my router's ip address under ipv4.

Thank You!!! Awesome site and I really appreciate you taking the time to help me tonight.

Cheers, Ron
