I'm essentially a hobbyist. I got a $50 price on used Hickvision 2mp DS-2CD752MF IP cam. Looking at it online, it appears to be a typical older discontinued but heavy constructed 2mp IP cam. Nonetheless, I see prices over $300 new.

I'm not super knowledgeable on the ins and outs, of IP cams but is there any major issue / shortcoming etc with this unit for it to be so cheap? Waste of money due to...... ? lol...

Thanks ahead for input! Appreciate the thoughts!

Hey, welcome to the forum. There are serveral versions of this camera the DS-2CD752MF-FB(H) and DS-2CD752MF-IFB(H) one with IR the other without both have options H models with heaters.

Either camera is certainly worth 50 dollars. Even the one without IR should have an IR cut filter as its designated as day/night camera..so with external IR it would work our you may have adequate outdoor lighting.
Pros - Varifocal- you can adjust the viewing angle/zoom (manually), POE (power over ethernet), audio in out, alarm in out, SD card recording. There is also a composite out listed but its unclear if its just for testing the angle with a small analog display or you can use it permanently (it would be in the pigtail)...this could be useful to use to a small door monitor...
Cons, no WDR.

Here are the spec sheets. http://www.hikvision.com/UploadFile/image/DS-2CD752MF-FB(H).pdf http://www.hikvision.com/UploadFile/image/DS-2CD752MF-IFB(H).pdf

Thank you for the welcome and prompt response! I appreciate deciphering the options of this unit, I am just not up to speed on all the possibilities just yet. Ahh, Varifocal. I wasn't "getting" the wide lens range, I thought they were listing available lens options, lol... Yeah, 2.7~9mm Makes sense now. Reading the manual, it seems like a good unit, but I figured with no one having interest in the auction, ther emay be some thing I was overlooking.

I couldn't find what the suffix was as far as FB(H) or IFB(H). But, I see IR lights on it, so I imagine the latter?

It was a spur of the moment purchase that seemed ok. A learning experience I imagine when it comes. ;)

Ahh, no WDR, I guess I somewhat have noted that with the manual stating to watch for bright lights etc...

Interesting concept to potential use with a small monitor via the composite out. That didn't occur to me.

Thank you for the insight. May be a better deal than I may have thought. We'll see when I get into setup, lol... :)

The auction actually lists it as a DS-2CD752MF-(I)FB(H) so it may have the heater option. You can see from the image that it has IR. and for 50 bux its a steal...

Ugh, I looked the auction quickly over a few times and kept missing the full model number (I)FB(H) at the bottom description till you mentioned it. lol.. And that was something i was looking particularly. A heater would be nice as well :)

Well, quite pleased it is a good unit, It seemed to be, but I had a sneaking suspicion there was maybe a reason for its low price and no apparent bidding interest from others. We'll see how it goes when it comes. Looking forward to setting it up :) Thank you for lending your expertise! Appreciated.
