Hik-Connect App vs. iVms 4500

Pu
So that's my settings both cameras are the Same.
So question
When you log in on the app does it automatically use the sub stream ? If not how do you set it to use sub stream on app and main when your recording or viewing on NVR or PC at home ?
pull the video quality to low and max bit rate to 512 and frame rate to 10 and I frame rate to 10 for sub stream
This should allow off site a more fluid stream
As for play back i have just checked mine it records the main stream and is slow to load as when you go to pictures it is clear as a bell.
So I would assume that you would need to set record the main stream on the nvr, that’s why this app
Would be better if it knew it was off site and load up the recording from sub stream.

Ps do these in the web GUI not from remote configuration via iVMS on the computer
And check the camera web GUI
Eg log into the nvr IP address on a web browser, check the settings then go thro virtual host for camera management open up the camera web page and check there to what sub stream settings are on the camera
Then click reboot for the camera then log out and go back to the nvr web page and check the savings there.

Try main stream event see how that goes for you

Okay, I finally connected and powered my camera up (just in the house for now to get things set up before installing it outside) and so far I can view the live camera feed very well thru my LAN WIFI both on the iVMS-4500 on my windows phone nd the iVMS-4200 on my laptop.

What I am trying to do now is to view a live feed on the iVMS-4500 remotely (turning off my phone WIFI and turning on the DATA connection).

I obviously have something not set right as I get the error "ddns server internal error".

What should go in the various fields that you fill in when adding a new device on iVMS-4500 so I can maybe see what I did wrong.

Alias: (the name I name it)
Register Mode: should it be HiDDNS or IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER (I used IP/DOMAIN for the successful WIFI setup)
Address: what goes here ?
Port: what goes here ?
Username: already filled in with admin
Password: I use my camera password
Camera No. seemed to fill in automatically for the WIFI setup

NOTE: info needed is to have a remote view of the live feed.

Thanks !

Gary

the connection will be under hik-connect domain then you will have a 9 digit number
Alias (home nvr) or what ever you call yours
register mode= HIK-CONNECT DOMAIN
device domain (123456789) or what ever yours is
user name = admin
password = what ever yours is
but you must register your self a hik-connect account first otherwise this wont work for you thats how you get that 9 digit number
so when at home your nvr/camera will come up on ip address and when your away you select the nvr/camera
that has hik-connect

Port: what goes here ?[
this needs to be done on the phone app under add a new device/manual adding
tap register mode and a new window will appear
with registrar type
tap the first one hik-connect domain
then fill out the above then on the top right hit the round icon with the square box to save the setting

The iVMS-4500 on my windows phone does not list "HIK-CONNECT DOMAIN" as one of the "Register Mode" options, only options were these three: HiDDNS or IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER

I do have a hik-connect account that gave me a 9 digit number.

NOTE: I think just the android and the IOS versions of the iVMS-4500 app have a separate "Hik-Connect" option, the Windows Mobile version does not, I think the Windows version needs to use the "HiDDNS" register mode, but I can't get it to work ("ddns server internal error") so there is obviously something I'm not doing right.

EDIT TO ADD:

Was doing more research after posting this and found a help page at this link that said:

http://www.hikvision.com/ueditor/net/upload/2017-01-05/fff5d82f-35e1-49cd-8cce-01dcd805fe12.pdf

In order to improve your user experience, we recommend you enable the UPnP function in both your router and device, or configure Ports Forwarding manually in your router.

You still can use Hik-Connect service even if you don’t enable UPnP or configure ports forwarding manually; however, you cannot use Hik-Connect domain name service.
(end of quote)

I read that it's not safe to enable UPnP and forward ports, is it okay in this instance, did you set yours up that way ? (I'm not sure if that would solve the error ("ddns server internal error")

I only use this system if away on holidays and I have a VPN built into my router it a dlink taipan that works for me so I’m only looking in maybe two weeks in a year and for a few mins in the morning and evening.
But the test nvr with two Chinese cameras and original firm ware with upnp
One got reset that I set up after all this hik back door problems proved that wasn’t safe
So if the latest firmware is installed that should be addressed
And I would personally use a VPN
But others might be using this system this way and might not of had any problems
Well my PlayStation has upnp enabled and that works ok still

Thanks, and VPN is what I had been trying to set up but I still haven't did something right to get a VPN connection to my windows phone, here is a link to my post on a thread where I have been trying to figure that out -

VPN Primer for Noobs

I was hoping the Hik-Connect would be a solution until I could eventually figure out the VPN, but I seem to keep running into different roadblocks.

I found yet another (maybe more recent) Hik-Connect help page at -

http://hikvisionusa.com/Techsupport/how to/Hik-Connect Data Sheet NA090517.pdf

It gives two options for remote viewing, Hik-Connect P2P service (no port forwarding needed) - or - Hik-Connect DDNS service (does need port forwarding)

I would like to use the Hik-Connect P2P service since no port forwarding is needed, but I can't find a way to set it up on a Windows phone.

As far as port forwarding with the Hik-Connect DDNS service, they even share a security tip as follows:

Security Tip: Minimize the number of ports opened to the Internet. Port forwarding should only be configured when absolutely necessary. Avoid common ports by changing the default device ports and / or mapping different external ports to the internal ports. (end of quote)

I'm not sure how to do that or how much safer not using common ports would make it, but if there is no way to get the Hik-Connect P2P service to work on a Windows phone and since it seems like getting a VPN connection to my windows phone figured out could take weeks or even months of research the Hik-Connect DDNS service using port forwarding might be my only option for now, but without VPN protection.

Ok the p2p will be ok
What nvr do you have? With what firm ware.? 3.4.92. Is where you need to be if you have a 7 series I have two of these running and just hooked up p2p on my I phone into iVMS-4500 app seems ok Hik-Connect DDNS service (does need port forwarding) If they are talking about there DDNS they shut that down last Xmas and everything migrated over to there hick-connect system.hence there newer firmware has deleted there ddns option out of the menu system

Thanks, your response helped me to know what to research more, hopefully getting me closer to a solution

I meant to ask, do you use the iVMS-4500 app on a Windows phone ?

The reason I ask is because the iVMS-4500 app for Windows phones is different from the iVMS-4500 versions for android and IOS from what I have researched online.

I don't use an nvr but just use a direct connection to the iVMS-4500.

The firmware is version for my camera is 5.4.6 build 170124

My camera model is DS-2CD2342WD-I

I found a Hikvision page that says:

If you're still using HiDDNS service directly connected to your IP camera, please use v5.4.41 (v5.4.71 for DF series PTZ), which is packed in the download file. Starting with v5.4.5 (v5.4.9 for DF series PTZ) HiDDNS service is no longer supported, but only Hik-Connect is available. (end of quote)

The above quote was from this link -

Hikvision USA

Okay, from that quote it would seem the Hik-Connect is the only option since my firmware is after the "starting with v5.4.5 they mentioned. I am guessing that is why I am getting the "ddns server internal error" when I try to use the register mode HiDDNS on the Windows phone version of the iVMS-4500 app.

Since the Windows phone version of the iVMS-4500 app only lists the following register modes - HiDDNS or IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER - and the HiDDNS is no longer supported that only leaves either the - IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER register mode. I have successfully used the IP/DOMAIN register mode to view a live camera feed over my LAN WIFI, but which of those two (IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER register mode) would I need to use to remotely view a live feed when away from WIFI and using my data connection and how would I set it up ?

I use apple and have no idea on a windows phone sorry,
Do you have an iPad around that you can test this on.?
If not your only option would be to use Dyns or if your router like Asus would have a built in Dyns service but then you would have to use a VPN to tunnel into your router

I'm new at this type of stuff on routers, but my router specs are - RT-ACRH13 | Networking | ASUS USA

I has also downloaded Softether SoftEther VPN Project - SoftEther VPN Project and was trying to figure out how to set that up so I could connect to my windows phone, but still trying.

Do you not have the Hik-Connect option using iVMS-4500?

No, the Windows version does not have that option, (wish it did )

On the left is a screenshot of the menu on the Windows phone version, and then the screen you see when pressing "Devices" then add a new device, and if you touch where it says "IP/Domain" on the new device page, it opens to give you one of three options to choose, either HiDDNS or IP/DOMAIN or IP SERVER.

Ok I get it now.

Conclusion: get a new phone :-D

Why do you have a windows phone? No one else does. A bit unfair to expect Hikvision to write an app for only one user :-D

I know us Windows phone users are in a minority  it's not because they are not great phones, but the company failed to give it the support and promotion it needed

Well, that iVMS-4500 app is one they made for Windows phones, they just didn't include the Hik-Connect option.

I know Windows phones have a small market but overall my Nokia Lumia 1520 is a really great phone and has a lot of neat features, I like the live tiles, and the big screen is almost like having a small tablet but it's still easy to carry, almost like having a portable computer, the "remote view" of a camera is the first real problem I've had to mess with.

Anyhow, on the bright side, another member of the forum is successfully using a Windows phone to connect to remote view his camera, he is using the Softether VPN software and just recently sent me screenshots of how he set his up, and I'll be working on changing my settings a little later, from looking at his screenshots I already see some mistakes I had previously made trying to set it up before, just part of the learning process as a noob

Your efforts to try to help and offer suggestions is still appreciated though, I guess once you learn this stuff it then seems a lot easier, but when you are a noob like me it can feel like a first grader trying to learn algebra
