Hi - I am looking at a 16 ch Hik NVR with built in PoE. I do not want to use the built in PoE switch. Other than cost/power consumption, is there any other downside, i.e. will it function the same as a the model NVR without the switch?

I am having a hard time sourcing version I want without PoE.

Thanks in advance.

There is no downside to doing it this way. You will have to add the cameras to the NVR via IP address. The NVR will function the same.

Another consideration would be the specific model series - there are multiple to choose from that are still on sale.
The newer series, for example, support h.265, which can make such a difference to the history vs storage requirement equation.
