I can use the VLC plugin in firefox and it seems to work ok. Just wondering about the webcomponent plugin
You should be prompted to install the plugin when attempting to login to the camera. See if you already have an outdated plugin already. Maybe you need to delete it, and then you will get the prompt...???I could not get the current versions of FireFox, or Chrome, or IE 11 to show me images - they all demanded a plugin which, it seems doesn't exist. None of the published workarounds worked for me.

I've never had Pale Moon crash using 4MP or even 8MP cameras. That's strange.
I believe in IE, I had to go to the security settings in internet options, and add the IP address of the cam or NVR to the “safe list”. Try doing that and see if it stops prompting you to install the plugin
To be technical about it, Pale Moon itself did not crash. The screen prompt said the plugin had crashed and Pale Moon would now close. Which it did.
This happened after I added a third camera, which was 4MP. The previous two had been 2MP. When I removed the 4MP and put in another 2MP, the crashes stopped, so I had to surmise it was having a problem with a 4MP device.
System is LaView 8 channel NVR with several cameras.
Most cameras have never had support for viewing directly using a web browser on android or ios. Over the course of the next year or two, I'd expect to see more cameras that work without plugins and use hls or dash. There are apps that work on ios and android.Yeah, tough luck for anyone using android, can't wait for for the smartazz staff member to tell us we should be using windows.

Can you be more specific as to how you have the VLC plugin configured in Firefox? Thanks.
I am using VLC Web Plugin 2.2.4.0 with Firefox 52.0.2 (32-bit) ESR
When I goto a camera page there is a place I can switch to what pluggin I want to use to view the video. Depending on the firmware version it is at the bottom left. Or the top left. See the picture
Use Pale Moon browser x86 (32 bit) for your cameras only.
