Ensure that your cameras and NVR aren't accessible via the internet and setup a VPN to access them. A good starting place is @nayr's VPN Primer for Noobs.

If your router has the option, disable UPnP. This is a "feature" by which cameras will automatically open ports to themselves.

Yes upnp is it terrible feature always turn it off even if you don't have cameras....

I use Milestone for recording and viewing on my phone. If I don't open any ports would I still be able to view the live feed on my phone. ???

no, you would need to setup a vpn

That's the HTTPS port.

Indeed it is.. I have plenty of requests using ports 443 and 80 to the NvR and cameras in my router log. These 2 ports should be blocked NOW for good.
