Hikvision Dome Cameras - do I need to port forward even when using HikConnect?

I've just obtained a couple of Hikvision dome cameras and am very pleased with them.

However I'd thought that when using HikConnect, that I would not need to port forward. Is that correct?

I have a number of Foscam cameras and their app does not require this.

You don't need to port forward for remote video via Hikconnect.

If you want to remote configure then setup a VPN. Don't port forward as it exposes your network.

When using Hik-Connect, it does not require port forwarding. You can do port forwarding which will give you a faster connection and you would have access to the configuration settings which aren't available without port forwarding done.
