Hello,
at first i am not a camera specialist, sorry for that. But i have a DS-2CD2T52-I5 and i am not happy with it. I have a range up to 30m that i need to see but on night without moon i dont see very much on the Video. That camera is for my company and i have 4 of them. And there is one camera that need to record license plate of cars that coming on my property but on night time its impossible, i only see a shining license plate. Is there any way to fix my problems? I hope someone can help me and sorry for my bad english.

Thanks,

I have a DS-2CD2T42WD-I8 with 6mm lens. Nighttime images are ok, but the range seems to be limited to about 20m without supplemental lighting. The camera's IR actually reaches out farther than that, but image clarity drops off significantly past 20m. (Actually, I think the image quality should be better at longer distances, but mine doesn't perform that well. I think Hikvision is working on firmware changes that might help with this.)

You can use this camera to record license plates. However, it will have to be dedicated to that role. I am not using mine for reading plates now, but I have tried it and it works very well. You will have to set the shutter to about 1/500, so about the only thing you will see after dark is license plates, taillights, headlights, and things like that. You won't be able to see much else at that shutter speed.
