Anyone knows if the transcoded playback stream is available in the quite new NVR "i" series such as 7608ni-i2 or 7716ni-i4?

Can't say for sure, but if it follows in line with their other models only the 77xx model would have it, not the 76xx line.
Answer: I found the manual describing the differences between the 9600, 8600, 7700, and 7600, k and I series. It turns out that the I series are the ones that support transcoding, not the fact that they are 7600/7700 etc. I went to search for the manual online again and couldnt find it, but luckily I had saved it in my Google drive because I knew this would happen.
