How do Uniview cameras stack up against others?

Hello group. These questions go out to any Uniview camera owners. How do the Uniview cameras stack up against their cheaper competition? The night shots seem wonderful but does that justify the high cost? I wouldn't necessarily mind paying the doubled cost...IF it meant I'd get double the performance/capabilities.

I'm guessing some of that extra cost is due to the Government certification?

I have no experience with Uniview but I will offer a caution for every camera. Just don't judge them by a nice, color especially, night still shot. Look for night video with motion, like an actual person walking by or a car/truck driving down the street. Night time is when a surveillance camera needs to work and work well. Static shots are meaningless no matter who made the camera.

I had the same question because I recently received a price list from a local uniview distributor. A comparison of uniview 4mp varifocal turret don’t look as good as a Dahua 4mp varifocal turret is in the same price range. Comparing 1/3 sensor vs 1/1.8 sensor

The Hookup suggested that if you are in that price range, then go with Axis; otherwise @EMPIRETECANDY is the best solution on a cost/performance, obviously that changes if you are a government agency.

They are a good quality brand comparable to hikvision and dahua. No cameras are government certified.

I used the word "certified" in a general sense whereas I should have said "authorized" to avoid any potential confusion. Stated more literally, some Uniview cameras are authorized for purchase/use by the US Government under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). My bad for not being more specific.

The Ndaa polical ban only prohibits hikvision dahua and Huawei. All other brands including all uniview cameras are permitted. These cameras should be treated the same as all others and assumed to be not secure. There are literally hundreds of cameras available by manufacturers other than hik/dahua. Uniview cost more because they have a tighter control over their inventory.

I use Uniview for pretty much every install and have never had any issues with them. And if there is ever a need for tech support they actually answer the phone in a few rings and speak English. And they have a 3 year warranty on everything they sell. I would rather pay a little more and get solid equipment

Thanks Robert, appreciate the user input! I would tend to agree with you on the pay more if it's a quality product. Unfortunately, sometimes things cost more for no apparent reason and the human brain seems to associate that with it being a better product. So input from someone with actual experience with this brand helps me quite a bit, thank you.

Did a few unv installs. Happy with cameras and features. However had 6 cameras go offline in 2 locations. Actually show online but couldn't view on app. Support absolutely excellent, sorted remotely. But same thing happened year later. 2 cameras world work intermittently. Replaced with Dahua in one location and installed unv NVR in other location. Now I have a PTZ going offline, sorted by remote session few days ago and gone again now. In my limited experience unv have a software problem with the cameras or their cloud. Support is excellent but it's my time going to sites and unreliable for customers. All my new installs are now Dahua.

I Just recently installed a bunch of there owlview 4MP series cams. Seems like they would stack up ok against our 1/1.8 LED cams. I don't really have much experience in the set up of UNV NVR, so I called the authorized dealer where client purchased the cameras here in Canada with some questions. Unfortunately the tech was not in, so they transferred me to a official "uniview" tech support agent in China, who then helped me trouble shoot the issues.

Hi Paddy,

I am currently experiencing this issue with my UNV Cameras, where they appear online on the app however when I try and live view them they don’t load. What was the solution in the end? I have 30 cameras affected by this issue at the moment.
