Hi all,

I recently bought dahua nvr .

I followed steps in below order

1.installed hardrive [No longer it is giving beep sound]

2.i installed smartpss in windows 11

3.connected nvr with laptop using hdmi cable

4.i initialized the nvr from configTool [attached screenshot]

5.opened smartpss and i see 2 entries using autoSearch [But one is offline] --> Not sure why 2 entries when i have only one nvr

I assume some ip configuration is not correct, When i checked ifconfig in laptop i see ipv4 address as 10.1.1.108 [Preferred] this is different than what is shown in configTool

what is next course of action, i checked lot of you tube videos on setup but cant find my issues

Thanks

NVR to HDMI should connect to your Monitor not a laptop unless there is some new model of NVR HDMI to Laptop that I don't know about..

Next first Ip is PC-NVR that is the IP of your SmartPSS computer.. So the 192.168.x.xxx is static Ip of what sounds like a NVR that has not been setup yet. When you give it power you can setup NVR over the NVRs GUI. In some cases for me anyway I setup my NVRs Static IP in a Router Table and when that Mac address comes online it hands out an IP and I can access it even to setup.. Some machines you can't do that with until the NVR is setup..

Then because your NVR is a POE NVR then 10.1.1.xxx is the NVRs Switch Range.. That Switch can be changed like one of mine with my NVR having local IP of 10.0.0.225 I have my NVR POE Switch setup with 10.2.25.1 and all other IPs are out of that range on the NVRs Switch. So I setup all my NVRs this way and have 1 that does still use the default 10.1.1.xxx. Mainly do this so I remember what NVR I have the camera connected to in my system while I have a camera down for cleaning or tech issues I don't install back in wrong location.

So I would connect your NVR to a HDMI port on your Monitor or TV and setup the NVR. Then once it is setup you can remove from the TV/Monitor and connect over WebUI or Dahua desktop software. I personally would use WebUI..

SmartPSS should only be used for watching video, not setting up the NVR.

See this thread on how to properly set up the NVR (The screens will look a little different, but same approach):

Best practice is to connect to the NVR thru the web GUI of the NVR not the HDMI/Monitor or SmartPSS.

You have access to many more functions in the web GUI not connected to HDMI and a monitor.

The web GUI is much different than SmartPSS that you were trying.

So open up a browser (preferably Internet Explorer (yeah we know LOL) or Pale Moon) and type in the IP address of the NVR and then you will get login screen. Then set it up from there.

hi thanks , does it work for first time though ? i switched on my nvr and tried to access the ip 192.168.1.108 in pale moon just getting timeout errors. I verified that the nvr is powered on and it is connected to router and laptop is connected to wifi of same router

Yes you can but it can be kind of tricky lol.. Download DMSS on your phone, Then you will want to setup using the DMSS app. if your NVR has QR code that is easiest. But if it don't just type in the SN in the app. Then it will try to add and say that it can't do you want to try another way click yes.. It might complete but I unchecked p2p and auto update so mine while it did complete the NVR didn't update the IP to my current local IP address. So then using IP Config Tools you put in the password for your device that you setup in the phone app when it asks you too because you will see in the Config tool that it says it is online just has a Static IP outside your network range, Now with Config tools click on the NVR check box and click edit, It will come up with IP area where you can enter Static IP but just click on the DHCP box for now. Then click OK/Apply or save already forgot what it was lol.. Anyway once you do the NVR will update with a good IP address for your NVR and you can now go to your Desktop software again I personally DON'T like using it. WebUI. Then you will be able to go to that IP address and log in and make changes as needed

Havent read all the responses. The NVR needs a monitor directly connected via HDMI or VGA. Set NVR up in a simple mode.. If the NVR has a built in poe ports - 10.1.1.xx let the nvr assign it an ip like 10.1.1.201 thru 216...or something like that. Also you can use IP config tool with your computer to intilize each camera via a poe switch and ip config tool.

If you set up your NVR plug and play is a simple way... if you plug each cam into the NVR you can do a search and add each one.

I suggest you watch a simple youtube video....it's ver simple.

The more involved part is camera config via gui and ............... ptp smartphone setup for remote access to you NVR, which most people use whether they admit it or not.

Honest, Without buying a Monitor or you could even use a HDMI to USB to access your NVR over OBS software that is free. The device is very cheap and might even be able to pick up at a local big box but I got mine on Ebay.

here is the device I use

Ok so here is an idea.. you can add a second IP address to your Laptop if you are connecting via Ethernet cable anyway. using Windows 11 press the windows key and r together, the type ncpa.cpl your network will pop up click on your adaptor and click properties. then click on IpV4 and click properties, then in the bottom of the box click advanced, then click top add new ip put in 192.168.1.111 and 255.255.255.0 for next box. and save. Then go to the browser and type in your NVRs IP address 192.168.1.108 and you should get the setup page like picture below. No monitor or Capture device needed.. Once you get the Beep and you get the log in page make sure to go to the Network area of the setup and change to DHCP or change to the IP address in your normal network Range..

Not sure what Dahua NVR you use but they all are pretty much the same for setting up.
You can connect with the LAN ip address and use a PC but you will be missing many features that a monitor connected directly will have.

Here are a couple vids on setting up and using.
