Is anyone using this device for telephone alerts?

I don't know how to set this up. Not sure if I need a physical modem in my computer. BI help seems to indicate that I do.

Here are the capabilities of the OBi200 : http://www.obihai.com/docs/OBi200DS.pdf

@NetWorker, you will need a modem......out of curiosity why would you want a phone call vs a push notification or text?

Hey fenderman, thanks for the reply.

I don't always get the notifications and often distracted from them but a phone call gets my attention. I want to use a phone call for specific cameras indoors because it will less likely be a false positive if motion is detected and want to take that notification seriously.

p.s. I've installed modem, now I just need to figure out how to get it all working =/

The modem has a "line in" and "phone" port and the Obi200 has a "phone" port

would this be how I hook it up?

internet source ethernet cable -> Obi200
Obi200 "phone" port -> PC modem "line in" port
PC Modem "phone" port -> phone port on analogue phone

You are supposed to hook the phone directly into the Obi200 but with a modem I assume it has to be in the middle somehow.

Can anyone "chime" in on this?

I don't think the way you have it setup is going to work with the phone having to go through the modem and then the Obi. I would guess you would be better off putting a splitter in at the Obi with one line going to the phone and the other going to the modem and treat the modem as an additional phone. I could be wrong, but your way seems complicated in the setup.

You just need a splitter for the phone port on the Obi200. That way you can plug both a phone and the modem in to the Obi200 phone port.

Also, If you already have phone jacks wired in your home you can plug the phone port of the Obi200 in to any phone jack and use the remaining phone jacks throughout the home to plug in phones and the modem.

Also, if I remember correctly, modems have both a phone in and out jack. You can plug your phone in to the In port of the modem and the modem's out port in the Obi200.

That is how I was trying to describe the connection my post.

It's the HiRO H50006

@NetWorker, either your method or the splitter suggested by others will work. Are you using the obi for your primary phone line or did you purchase it for this purpose?
