HP Elitedesk SFF G4

Have several set up. Must be too specific or something

Yes. Try shorter key words and remove i5-8500 and as some write it in the description. You will receive more results but better chance of catching it. It took me about 1 month after seeing this thread to purchasing my first elitedesk g4 so it can take time.

I ended up out the door at $450 on above referenced unit.
Listed at $500 and you ended up at $450? Was this a OBO listing? Or did you just contact seller and offer lower price?

There is a i5-8500 $480 with 256GB SSD- maybe watch to see if comes down in price

Yes it is good. Normally $400 with no disks.

I just saw one today go for $356: hp elitedesk g4 - i5 / 240GB SSD. Try setting up ebay alerts and might be able to get one for a good price.
I'm pretty sure that is the one I grabbed and no it did not go for that price. Not only that, it had $50 shipping on top.

It was an auction with option to make an offer. After some back and forth, seller accepted my offer at $400 (+$50 shipping).

It was a different one that came up after your purchase. It was up the day I made that post for about 30 minutes before someone purchased it.

I went ahead and got one for $480 all in w/ a 256 MB SSD. Wanted a steal, but...also wanted the computer sooner rather than later since I am getting close to buying the rest of my cameras.

Got the new PC in. Anyone know where I can find setting in BIOS to have PC automatically turn on after power failure? I can't find it in the BIOS for the life of me. I found "Schedule Power On" and "USB Power On... (or something like that)", but I'm not sure either of those will help with a power failure. It has the latest BIOS available installed.

I'm eventually going to get a UPS for once I get everything setup, but I'd still like to have it automatically power on in the event of an extended power outage.

check under advanced

I swear I looked there at least five times and didn't see it. Just looked again and found it. Time for bed I guess...

What option under advanced?

ah. advanced -> boot options -> after power loss: power on

Well, just found out that I can't add a wifi card to this machine. Support (after confirming my serial number) said something like "if it wasn't stamped on to the mother board, it won't work". So, I can't use the intel 9560 wlan card I bought. I guess that is why this doesn't have any type of antenna built in that some may have. FYI. Wanted for configuring/troubleshooting in more comfortable area. Will be hardwired, obviously, for BI machine but disappointing that I can't add a good wifi card even though it has a slot on the motherboard. Probably could add a usb wifi dongle, but...not the same quality.

You certainly can add a wifi card to the machine. Not sure why you assumed there would be standard external antenna connectors on a desktop pc. makes no sense to install a wifi card to "troubleshooting"...a cheap 5 dollar dongle is more than sufficient...if you insist on something more you can install your own antennas on a blank expansion slot or better yet use a pci-e card with antennas.

Not what us based HP support said. Unequivocally stated my pc (after checking serial number) would only be able to use a usb dongle for WiFi. Sure it makes sense: the pc could have other use cases in the future. I didn’t assume external antennae connectors. Just Didn’t really even think about it.

Not all have experience buying used business desktops. Could be helpful info for others. Just FYI. I’ll get usb dongle and be fine for when i want it or do extension could to a comfy spot.

It will work just fine. Plus you have a pcie slot..you misunderstood... surely you are not saying that you cant use pcie wifi? This is not accurate.

You can test it for yourself. Its not a used business desktop issue...its a desktop and common sense issue. Antennas are never standard. 99 percent of desktops don't even have a mobo slot for a wifi card, pci-e is used.

The g4 elitedesk also has a slot for wifi card in the mobo:
https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Wireless-AC-9560-2230-Gigabit/dp/B07G42J6KQ

But you can just use a pci slot for a wifi card too. I don't know why you would not be able to?

What support could mean is that you can’t now install the WiFi card in the bespoke slot as the wiring for the aerial isn’t there, so it wouldn’t work, too well at least?

Yes, i know generally what the options should be. But nah, he was saying something about the mobo not being stamped at the factory to enable the other options. I spent a few hours last night figuring out the options and what components I’d need to buy since i already bought the wlan card. Some of my notes below. Then i called HP to help me with the components needed to get it to work and they said putting a card in the m.2 slot with antennas or the pci slot was all in vein. I had never heard the things he was saying about the process before and why it didn’t have the capability; he was very confident. And condescending when i asked him to confirm pcie/m2 options wouldn’t work. Tell you what - i will call them again today and push again.

I had called them to ask about the parts i would need to get the WiFi running since i have the card. At this point, i kind of want to finish that route...just because.

If someone can confirm the (1) screw needed for the m.2 slot (think these); (2) looks like i need both an internal antenna cable + external antenna. Something like this. (3) and then a pci card to plug the antenna too, right? HP manual shows internal antenna hooking up to the box with some kind of kit (not pci card or external antenna) but no luck finding that. This is where i am stuck. Also I’d like to take advantage of the 160mhz capability of my router and the 9560 wlan card (just b/c) but am not sure if the external antennas matter in making that work.

Any who. I get it if this is too much too respond to! I’ve already sunk a ton of time looking in to it. Maybe i should just dongle it out, but i want the other stuff to work

You are confusing the m2 slot pcie with standard pcie, nothing has to be stamped... Google it
The m2 slot will work as well.
