i5-3470 or i5-3570 worth trying with blue iris?

In light of some recent issues I've had with my current computer running blue iris, I've been considering upgrading.

I'm not trying to cheap out here, but if I don't need to spend more, I don't want to. If I have to, I will, but I figured I'd check with you guys first on what I'm considering. From what I've read here, and from searching online refurbished desktops I have a few questions ...

I keep finding Dell OptiPlex desktops that have i5-3470 or i5-3470S (not sure what the S signifies). These are 7010s and 9010s.

I've also seen a few Dell OptiPlex 9010s that have i5-3570s.

So, I'm running with 5 cameras right now, with the possibility of adding 1 or 2 more. Most are Hikvision 2042s. Of course this may change in the future. But, with what I currently have, would I be okay going with one of the options I mentioned above? If so, is there anything I need to look out for with these? (like the S at the end, for example)

The computer I'm running now is an old laptop that runs between 30-40% cpu while idle, and 100% cpu while recording. So, I'm not looking for state of the art replacement here, just a large improvement.

Ha. Yeah, I'm using a laptop right now. I know, how embarrassing. I've been using it for around 9 months. But, I'm taking a step in the right direction now ...

Anyway, I have read through that post you linked. I get the gist of it. It recommends at least i5-6400 as far as i5s. I understand the memory requirements and not needing a separate graphics card, and all that. I took it's advice and searched around for OptiPlex and EliteDesk. I can get an i5-6400 for about 100-200 more than the i5-3470s are going for. (that's searching ebay and newegg)

That's why I'm asking. If I don't NEED to spend more, I'd prefer not to. So, I'm really looking for people's experiences with them. The 3470s that is.

I like the Dell Optiplex SFF machines. I've used the i5-3470 in a few installs with satisfactory results. I seem to recall one having an issue handling six 4mpx cameras at 20 FPS. CPU usage was too high (Live View happens to be on 24x7 for this one).

That one was gone when I looked, but I did end up finding a Dell OptiPlex 3010 Core i5-3470 @ 3.2 GHz 8GB 500GB Windows 8 for $125. I grabbed that one. I figure worst case, it's an upgrade over my desktop I have now, so even if it doesn't handle blue iris well enough, I've got a better computer than I had for everything else.

I appreciate the responses.

make sure to upgrade it to 10 for free...it will only work until december 31..
 
I actually use the i5-3570 with windows 7 on my home setup. Works great! Running 7 cameras at 19MP total @ 15 FPS so like 285MP/sec.

CPU hovers at around 45%.

When connected to my 2 raspberry pi viewing stations with the web UI up CPU hovers like 55%.

Cheap CPU and does the job for me
 
How fun! I can speak to this.

At my work we were running an i5-3570K at stock speeds. We pieced this system together from junk we had lying around.

This system ran 26 Hikvision cameras at 10fps / 1080P. UI2 reported CPU usage ranging from 40-57%, with an average of about 48% CPU use. During clip exporting, CPU use would often rise to 80%+.

This morning I pulled the 3570K and replaced it with an i7-3770 non-K. The CPU usage for the same setup now ranges from 20-40%, with an average of 25% CPU use. Clip export raises it to 30%.

Also, the 3770 runs cooler than the 3570k, probably because the CPU isn't working as hard.
