i7 4790 PC for BI

how are you guys getting such great cpu usage on a i7-4790...i have a E3-1245v3 which is just a little bit slower then the i7 and my cpu usage is hitting around 70% with DoD and most of my cams are at around 10-15fps....
12 hik 1080
11 old school 640
Welcome to the forum. Are you using the demo? Did you set EACH camera to direct to disk? Did you enable hardware acceleration and restart?

yeah local screen
16gb
os is on ssd
half the cams r on a 2tb drive
other half r on a 3tb drive
DoD on all cameras record 24/7
no pre-trigger
Does the cpu usage drop significantly if you set the cameras to record on motion only?
are you recording to BVR format?
You must use pretrigger frames when recording direct to disk or you will miss motion...Your cameras iframe interval should also match the frame rate.

If I have more than 10 cameras actively recording (windy days, or rain/fog at night), my CPU stays maxed, and the frame rate drops. Granted, I'm not D2D - but I'm also only recording 720p @ 15. Is it even possible to simultaneously RECORD the data from 21 cameras at full frame rate?

i have not tryed motion only
i am recording to BVR
i should of said that my pre-trigger is set at 0

on the iframes interval are you talking about each camera in settings? i have mine set right now at 50 default

on my system at 30fps it will not handle it....at least i so far it wont
with what i have now 10-15fps its doing "ok" but cpu is starting to max out i wanted to replace the old school 640x480cams with 1080s one day

You will miss motion with those settings...you should match the iframe interval to fps and also set the pretrigger to 2-3 times your fps.
Are you using hardware acceleration?

so i changed the iframe interval that seemed to help
so after doing some researching the server motherboard doesnt have intel hd graphics its using aspeed graphics

i tryed on the i5-4570 as well which does have H-A and its at around 70% compared to 100%

ive gotten my xeon down to 42-54 with rdp and live screen

with 14 Hik 3mp or 4mp cameras the rest are old school 480 cams
a little better then before

i did order a i7 3rd gen should be here soon to test out

Agree with Plasman. Have had that machine for a couple months now. Seems to run BI really well with 7 Dahuas. 4-4mp and 3-2mp. Around 20% cpu, all at 15 fps. The refurbished I got seemed barely used. But maybe I got lucky.
