Insurance Fraud Caught on Camera (Reasons why everyone needs two dashcams!)

That guy could give Louis Rossmann a good run in a speed-talking contest! :headbang:

So thankful for the YouTube "Playback Speed" options! :lol:

Wow ... Just Wow! They did some serious planning:
  1. Stop, then backup;
  2. Switch drivers;
  3. Temporarily cover the back window to hide their moves;
  4. Coordinate with a 2nd pickup/getaway vehicle;
  5. etc.
So far, I'm fortune that I haven't been a part of a scam like this. However, for a long time, I believed cars should all come equipped with dashcams. With all the other cameras, sensors and technology being incorporated into modern cars, it seems like a no brainer.

wow .. cars cuts off another, and does a quick break to get rear ended .. target ( victim ) car stops in time .. criminals upset and backs into target car .. causing collision

The Honda Civic that played a starring role in last week’s viral dashcam video of an apparent insurance scam on the Belt Parkway has been found – parked right on a residential street in Brooklyn’s Dyker Heights neighborhood, thanks to eagle-eyed social media sleuths.

Internet detectives posted a video and photos showing the vehicle, complete with a matching New York license plate (LBB 8917) and telltale body damage from the incident, offering a potential breakthrough in the case that has captured the attention of motorists across the country.

“Hey @nypd you can find their car in Dyker Heights,” reads an Instagram post sharing the image of the vehicle.

update ..

Crash Scam Follow Up: Thank Goodness for the Dash Cam

I've had a truck try to do that to me. I was a couple car lengths behind him, he slammed on his brakes not once but twice trying to get me to hit him. One, I have a dashcam which I AM going to upgrade.
Two, I had a couple LEO's riding with me, which we proceeded to follow vehicle into the car wash parking lot where he got out ranting and screaming until everyone got out and he realized he made a SLIGHT miscalculation.

I think the term for this scam method is "swoop and squat".

I'm not unhappy with my Anker Roav dash cam, but also have never needed to use it other than pulling random videos from it. I may keep an eye out during Black Friday and see what's out there that has front/rear together.

I've had two older WolfBox 850's (4K+1K) rear view mirror cams since December 2022.
I picked them up half price on Amazon Prime day.

Only issue was it took about a year to finally get them to update the firmware after I reported multiple times the on display compass heading for NE (would display NW) was incorrect. People must have thought I was insane or drunk driving around in circles in an empty parking lot while recording video of my vehicle compass and the dash cam compass.
