Hi,

I'm new the forum and hoping to learn from the experienced members of the board. I'm trying to decide on a new surveillance system and having a little trouble deciding what is best to purchase. I used to own a Swann system about 3 years ago 720P + DVR, some of the issues i had were:

1) fuzzy / Choppy video / 2-3 second delay when streamed to phone. No fuzzy / delay/choppy video on the monitor connected directly to DVR just remote access devices - my service provided about 18Mbps
2) Installation was not fun in terms of configuring the network settings etc.

I'm looking at kits on Costco / Amazon and i'm curious if IP cameras (like HIKVision on Amazon) or 1080P Lorex NVR kits from Costco would cure the choppy video / 2-3 second delay on remote access. Consider me a complete newbie to all this new technology so you won't insult, but would be helping me, if simple explanations are needed.

Could I get your expertise on whether either of these options actually fix the remote access problem. I guess the I'll deal with a complicated installation if the remote viewing would be more smooth and i could actually make out the faces in the video. I'd just hate to spend more for IP cameras if the remote viewing is just as bad as 720P or 1080P cameras.

Thanks in advance to the board for your help.

You arent going to be able to stream full 1080p to a phone.. period. There isn't enough bandwidth on your mobile carrier to support fluid streaming. I'd certainly reccomend HikVision cameras, but regardless of which cameras you purchase, there isn't going to be one that will smoothly stream it. If your phone is connected to WiFi, then quite possibly, but via the mobile networks, there is latency that you can't necessarily avoid.

If you have a solid 4g connection on your phone you will be able to stream the substream just fine...you dont need 1080p going to your phone...
You need to test your upload speed not download speeds..
