Hello,

I am new here and have already read a lot in this forum. I also have read about where to buy and where not to buy via aliexpress. Unfortunately, I already have bought a camera over DragonEye and don't know if it is crap or not.

Here is my problem. I have a new NVR NVR4108-8P-4KS2 purchased from Empire as recommended here. From then on, I thought everything would be better in regard to IVS and then mentioned camera above. I learned that the NVR has nothing to do with how the IVS works because the camera does all the work. I set up IVS -tripwire- also I activated IVS in the smart plan settings. I set the max in min target. I took my laptop and walked out the door. The green frame showed up and the tripwire went red. Then I did a again and nothing happened. What I want to say is, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. It does not function in a way I can rely on. Does anyone have an idea what I can do or did I buy a cam which is not working properly? Would another firmware help and if yes where can I download it or is that too risky, since I bought it from aliexpress from a seller I don't know if I can update it or not because I could end up bricking the camera.

The same issue I have with a SD29204T-GN where IVS does not work. I also bought it from DragonEye.

There's a whole book of knowledge on IVS scattered around here and in the Wiki, lots of fine tuning involved depending on your scene, try browsing that first.

I'm no expert but the one thing that stuck out to me was that like MD, is there an anti-dither type setting that only allows an event to be triggered over a certain amount of time> Usually seconds. Can you walk out the door, see initial the trigger, then wait a minute before trying to trigger it again..

One problem with tripwire (especially if it’s near the edge of the screen) is that the camera takes time to notice motion and determine if it’s an object. If the motion crosses the tripwire line before the camera has identified the motion as an object, then nothing happens.

In situations like that, it’s usually more reliable to use an intrusion box instead of a tripwire. Draw the box, select the options for “enter” and “exit”, and then also check the option for “appears”, which covers the situation of something crossing into the box before it’s been identified as an object.

Thanks for your replies. It works already better with tripwire. I also set up intrusion now. Let's see what works better. What about the night. There IVS seems not to pick up in the way it does during the day. Is this normal ?

Something else? When I change sth. in the settings directly over the camera, the changes are transferred to the software of the NVR? Where is it better to make the changes? Directly in the setup of the camera or over the NVR setup?

Would you recommend to use the Ports of the NVR for the cameras. Right now, I use my Netgear switch, where I have my cameras connected to. I read the integrated switch of the NVR behaves different and separates the ports and works as a own router. So I cannot access the cameras from outside. How are you handling this? Do you use the ports of the NVR or not?

I've never seen IVS act differently between day and night. What I have seen act differently between day and night (specifically: different lighting levels) is the camera's ability to detect objects. Have you tried enabling the features that show you green boxes on the video as the camera works to detect objects, as well as the IVS rules changing color when triggered? It's a good way to help visualize what is happening.

Unless you have a very high-level NVR, motion detection and IVS rules run on the cameras, not the NVR. In earlier firmware versions, there was no ability to setup IVS on the cameras... you had to do it all directly on the cameras. As far as I know, with the later NVR firmware, it allowed you to setup IVS via the NVR and then transferred the setup to the cameras. For the brief period that I used a NVR, I typically made most changes on the camera directly as it seemed like there were often additional features there that weren't available when configuring on the NVR. I'm not sure how much that has changed. I switched to Blue Iris a year or so ago, so my NVR memories are fading. :)

There is no right or wrong answer for your question about how to use ports, it's a personal preference. If you do use the integrated ports of the NVR (which results in the cameras being isolated on their own non-routable subnet), the latest versions of Dahua NVR firmware will port-forward port 80 to the cameras, allowing you some direct access to the cameras. If you use a web browser to connect to the NVR, there's a page that will list all of the cameras with a link next to them you can click to open another browser that connects to the camera. IIRC, you can also go directly to the cameras by using http://ip.of.the.nvr:10080 <for the first camera>, http://ip.of.the.nvr:10081 <for the second camera>, etc.

Agree with looney - I'd make the changes on the cameras themselves and I wanted to chime in that I'd recommend downloading Pale Moon Browser (32 bit only) and making changes via the web browser instead of using SmartPSS - I've found the making changes in SmartPSS doesn't always work well (for my Dahua NVR) and I use SmartPSS only to view.

Unfortunately, in the night it is hard to identify the face of the person. Can I improve this a little bit? It is IPC-HDW5431R-ZE 4MP. I know at night a 2MP would have been better -I already read here. But at that time, I already have purchased the camera. This is the firmware I use. Should I use another one? Better one? Just to remind, I bought it at Dragoneye and don't know if I can update it.

1-More light, either IR or white light.

I started to read them. Lot's of information.

What do you think about the firmware update for the cameras? Should I try or will I brick them? If it works which firmware would you recommend and where can I get it? Thanks.
